The ability to read and comprehend information is an essential skill students must develop in order to achieve academic success. For most of my students, our classroom is the only place they have access to books, and all of my students value the independent reading time that supplements the Language Arts curriculum. Students choose books that not only interest them, but texts that they can also comprehend. As their comfort level increases, students move on to more challenging books, especially if the subject material is of particular interest. Independent reading lets students engage with books relevant to their interests, fosters their imaginations, and provides them time during which they need only focus on the love of reading.

About my class
