  • Can't Stop the Music!

    Thank you all for providing materials for my students to continue to make music during this difficult time. Since each student has their own pack of materials, we can safely explore all the musical concepts and standards, whether attending school in person or learning from home. The individual music packs have worked even better than I anticipated, and every day we are finding more uses for them. The dowel rods have made amazing rhythm/drum sticks - I think I'll continue using them in the future. The surveyor's tape "ribbons" have provided beautiful creative movement opportunities. Check out the project pictures for my kiddos in action! Thanks again!”

  • Ukuleles, Part 2: Working Toward A Full Class Set!

    Thank you for completing my classroom set of ukuleles! The ukuleles have been a huge hit with my students. They are the perfect instrument to help all my students feel successful. They are so user friendly that none of the kids are frustrated - they're just having a great time. We have been able to learn popular songs the students know and love (lots of Imagine Dragons!), which keeps them energized and willing to work a little harder. We are beginning to combine the ukuleles with other instruments - recorders, drum set, bass guitar - in order to create a complete ensemble. I'm working on posting some videos to my Youtube channel - stay tuned!”

They are so user friendly that none of the kids are frustrated - they're just having a great time. We have been able to learn popular songs the students know and love (lots of Imagine Dragons!), which keeps them energized and willing to work a little harder. We are beginning to combine the ukuleles with other instruments - recorders, drum set, bass guitar - in order to create a complete ensemble. I'm working on posting some videos to my Youtube channel - stay tuned!”

Ukuleles are engaging, sound great, and are easy enough to make students to feel successful! They are so playable and simple that kids don't become overwhelmed with details - they can perform a song the first day they pick it up! It's the perfect instrument to introduce kids to the joys of music making and creativity. They lend themselves to the art of songwriting, which is an awesome way to practice literacy and writing skills that go far beyond music class.
