Flexible Seating in Fifth!
Funded Jul 26, 2018Thank you all for your generous donations! We are LOVING flexible seating in our classroom! The kids get to choose their own seats every day and have really started to figure out what types of seats work best for their learning styles.
On the first day of school, the kids came in and were shocked at our new classroom set up. I had all of the same students last year and they thought they would have boring old desks again. When they came in and saw all of their options, they cheered and were very excited. The first few weeks, I encouraged students to try out all of the different seats and they would reflect at the end of the day about how they were able to focus and learn in that spot.
I plan to continue to expand my seating options as time goes on. My hope is that this will continue to meet the diverse needs of all my students.”

iPads for Learning!
Funded May 25, 2016Thank you SO, SO, SO much for your extremely generous donation! My kids were absolutely thrilled to hear that we were getting 2 more iPads! Last year I received 2 from generous donations through donorschoose and to be able to add 2 more to the classroom has made a huge impact. We use these iPads on a daily basis.
Every day we use the iPads during our Math Workshop. The students have the opportunity to go on either one of the 4 computer or one of the 4 iPads during that rotation. They have access to a game called SumDog, which is a math game where they can play against each other and I am also able to set parameters around what specific math skills they are working on based on their needs. There are also multiple other Math apps they can access at this time. During our Reading time, they are able to go on and use some of the Spelling and Grammar apps during independent work time. With our current Reading curriculum, they are also able to access the text that we read in class and listen to it on the iPad. This is extremely helpful for my students who do not read at grade level.
Next year, I will have 8-10 students who are English Language Learners and do not speak English as their first language. I plan to utilize the iPads even more in order to help their English development. Also, I have many students who do not have access to technology at home. As you know, in this growing technological age, it is crucial for students to learn how to use technology for many reasons. The fact that my students now have access to 4 computers and 4 iPads is huge! Thank you again for caring about kids and a special thank you for caring about MY kids!”

Word Work Variety for 4th graders
Funded Mar 11, 2016Thank you so much for our new Word Work items, games and resources! The boxes arrived while school was still in session and as I hauled in 2 large boxes, their eyes grew quite wide. They were amazed that strangers would donate such fun, shiny, new things to their classroom. During the rest of the day they would continue to stare at the boxes during lessons, just dying for me to open them.
Since then, we have used them almost on a daily basis. These resources are available for students to use when they are done with their in-class assignments. It allows an extension of what we are doing as a class, in a new and fun way where they are also able to "play" with their classmates.
My plan is to continue to have students utilize these tools. I am already seeing a huge difference in growth with some of my lower performing students. I will continue to also work with these games and resources with the students to best teach them how to use them in order to get the most benefit from them.”

Funded Dec 1, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! When I told the kids that our project had been funded, loud cheers erupted in the classroom and they immediately wanted to know when they would be there and when they could get their hands on them.
My students use these resources on a daily basis. During my math and reading workshops, kids rotate and take turns being able to use them for math, reading, spelling or grammar apps. Sometimes the kids work by themselves on the tablets and sometimes they would with a partner. They also are able to use them for research that we do for other class projects since we only have 4 computers in the classroom.
The tablets have been a great motivator. Students will often work hard to complete their assignments so they can have the chance to use one for an educational game. This has enhanced my teaching because I am now able to expose more students at a time to the many technology based learning tools that we have access to. Thank you again for believing in my students and giving them this wonderful gift!”
