We are a Title I building and over 70% of students come from low-income households. My students come to school each day hoping to feel safe, welcome, and valued. Coming into a classroom where they feel happy and engaged in is crucial in order for learning to occur. Flexible seating can even boost academic performance based on current research, according to Edutopia. Flexible seating would give my students more choices as well as offering comfortable places to focus on learning. Many of my students request to have different choices and options in the classroom. Throughout the year, a lot of my students have asked for different chairs and seats in which to sit. Having students spread out across the room can also extinguish behavior problems, especially since we are striving to incorporate more PBIS strategies at our school. By offering more places to sit, I can enhance learning by allowing students to have more options and choices as well as encouraging responsibility at the same time.
