I am always looking for a more engaging way to get my kiddos involved and loving reading and literacy! We work on the Daily 5 for our literacy development which includes spending time with Read to Self, Working on Writing, Reading to Someone, Word Work and Listening to Reading. However, our Listening to Reading Station out of date! I am looking for a way to bring our outdated cassette tapes and old beat-up paper back books into the twenty-first century and I have figured out a way with QR codes! With the new QR technology, students will use their new Fire HD Tablets to "fire up" their interest in books! Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. Hearing a book read to them helps students see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way! It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. With the use of a tablet and QR codes, books will come alive in front of the students' eyes! My students love listening to me read and I know they would enjoy listening to other stories on their new tablets independently! This Donors Choose project will also give students an opportunity to hear different levels of books and different genres of books read to them. The more reading, the better, so I really hope we can get our QR Listening to Reading station up and running!
