Read alouds are extremely important, no matter the age. Books are so powerful and can teach young students tough concepts. With everything going on around us, I believe it is essential to empower students to be kind, embrace their differences, and understand empathy. Through read alouds, I am able to use powerful picture books to teach these concepts. As a classroom teacher, it is my civic duty to have books readily available to help students understand themselves and the world around them. My students love books, and being read to. The books chosen for this project promote these important values that need to be modeled for children. When we talk about kindness, empathy, acceptance, and being different we often refer to picture books to help us understand what these big ideas mean to explain and describe our feelings. With these books, I will be able to continue to help students continue grow to be kind and caring while embracing their differences, knowing they can make a difference in the world.
