An Apple TV will allow me to enhance instruction and provide my students with opportunities to interact with the content through different modalities, which is exactly what the Apple TV provides. It serves a dual purpose, becoming both an interactive whiteboard and Smart TV, which is perfect for today’s tech-savvy generation. The mirroring feature allows me to project directly from my iPad or MacBook, and students can make their learning public by showcasing their work as well. This allows for students to learn from each other through open discussions about their processes or current thinking, particularly in the area of mathematics. Students would be able to share the various strategies and methods they used when arriving at their solutions. I can also address common misconceptions or interesting approaches to solutions that arise during the lesson by mirroring their work and opening up the conversation to questions and wonderings about our learning. Our role as teachers is no longer to be the sage on the stage, but rather a facilitator of the curriculum, allowing students to take ownership over their learning. Having this highly advanced technology available in the classroom is a game-changer. Having an Apple TV would allow me to take my students on a virtual field trip, for example, of The Oregon Trail. Using the augmented reality capabilities, I would be able to drop a covered wagon in the middle of the classroom for students to experience in such a way that a textbook could never provide. We can also bring learning to life by streaming videos or displaying photos taken outside of the classroom. I need to be able to captivate my students' attention, but also keep them engaged throughout the entire lesson; what better tool to allow me to do so than an Apple TV?
