Artists Make! Do! Learn!
Funded Aug 12, 2021When I introduced my students to the books you provided for them, they were excited! In fostering independence and self-expression, the how to draw books are a favorite among my students. The books range in difficulty so my little and big kiddos can achieve success. The books are being used in my classroom to develop drawing skill, observation skills, visual analysis, eye hand coordination, following directions/steps, concentration/perseverance, and self-confidence among others. The biographical books introduced students to a variety of artists, their history/background and art. Students were also introduced to artists, styles, and art movements through history and from around the world that will inspire them as they work, grow, and develop as artists.
Since mine is an art class, reading is used to compliment the lesson being taught, to foster creativity, or engage in discussion. Visual analysis, thinking, and response enriches my students aesthetic experience and helps to gain a deeper understanding of what they see before them. This leads them to integrate new learning into their own work.
All my students from Pre-K to 5th grade are enjoying the books. The older students are particularly enthralled with the variety of how-to-draw books. They use them for brain breaks, to learn how to draw a particular thing, and get ideas. I have had students select animals of their choice to draw and place them in an environment they created as part of a printmaking unit. My younger students have enjoyed the books that shows them their ABC's and 123's using works of art of animals, and famous artists and art works. They've also created collages independently and collaboratively.
During this time of uncertainty, these books are helping my students to learn, create, and feel accomplished. Thank you for partnering with me!”

Funded Mar 7, 2020Thank you for your generous donations. In these troubling times, there is more need to express feelings and thoughts in a safe and tangible way. The arts is a way to do this. Your donation affords my students varying means through which to apply their learning in a creative, culturally responsive way to their world. Thank you again for giving them the opportunity to do just that in a safe, nurturing environment.”

Art is Expression
Funded Mar 11, 2019The materials your generous donations allowed us to acquire allows our students to engage in the creative process with added enthusiasm. Our boys and girls anticipated painting but we did not have the right brushes to help them create their masterpieces; now they do thanks to you. Additionally, the Model Magic affords our younger students in particular opportunities to mix colors, build sculpturally and have a more tactile experience as the material is soft and malleable.
We've had an amazing year, you helped make that possible.”

Mission Bookshelf; Reading Collections!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Imagine the excitement in our classroom as we unpacked the books and gave our boys and girls the chance to delve in! They couldn't keep their eyes off the stacks and stacks of books! Every so often you'd hear squeals of delight over familiar titles, new discoveries or some illustrations.
There is so much we will be able to do now: book clubs, series reading, more options for guided reading and just having a wider range of reading books for the joy of it! Moreover, the impact of this library which covers a range of reading levels, will be available for the use of this year's class and classes in years to come!
As we watch the joy of reading come alive in our boys and girls, the spark of discussion and conversation around literary works that is then incorporated into their own writing, we will think about your generous gift to us.”

Funded Aug 24, 2017My students love to come to our special rug and seating for reading and writing workshop or just to relax while reading independently or with a partner. It all helps to make reading more fun and encourages reading stamina. When anyone walks into my classroom they immediately notice my beautiful rug and seating and ask where I got them. I proudly let them know of my Donors Choose contributors. I can't thank you enough for your generosity and it's impact on my students and their learning. It is a joy to see.”
