We are asking for a variety of math manipulatives and counters to further advance our student's mathematical skills in preparation for the rest of their educational career. The items will be shared by 88 students across our 5 GSRP classrooms here in our school district. As an educated society, we are finally understanding that children learn through their play! However, "play" does not have to be a child sitting by themselves and solely "pretending". Our play-based learning activities include a teacher challenging their math skills when using math manipulatives, like the ones we're asking for in this project. We teach and encourage them to count, to sort and analyze, to pattern, to measure, and to identify shapes while they are using their materials. To the child however, they think it is just a part of the game of "animal friends" we are playing.
