This year our school will officially be a decade old. Although, this is an exciting milestone, the age is starting to show in some of our classroom supplies and furniture. Cracked book bins and a worn and torn rug is no way to start a new school year. It is important for my incoming third graders to feel welcomed and comfortable in their new classroom. Therefore, a mini classroom make-over is in need. A new rug for our meeting area is a must. So much of our learning throughout the school day happens on the rug, as well as, social interactions and community building exercises. Our rug becomes our space to gather and share feelings, thoughts, and ideas. Our library gets used and abused just as much as the rug. Students look forward to the day they get to explore and shop from our expansive classroom library. But years of wear and tear have caused our bins to chip, crack, and break. The little hands that use these bins every day need to not worry about getting pinched and scratched. The materials I have requested may not seem so exciting, however, they will go a long way and create a lasting impact on my classroom.
