Technology for the Nonverbal Community
Funded Nov 5, 2024When you give a child who is nonverbal or struggling with language, the ability to communicate, you open up a whole new world. Words can not express the impact that you have made on my students lives. The smiles and looks of excitement on the students faces, when I introduced the new devices and allowed them to interact with them are memories that I will never forget.
Throughout the day our curriculum requires that students complete work in the workbooks, having these devices has allowed me to bring the workbooks to life through technology and has allowed many of the students to interact virtually with the material being taught. Giving the students the ability to complete work that is usually hard for them has allowed them to show off their amazing skills.
Watching my students succeed is all that a teacher ever wants. Thank you for helping me to give my students what they need to be successful.”

Bringing Technology to the Classroom
Funded Dec 11, 2019With the crazy world that we live in today, we rely on the use of technology more than ever. I am very fortunate to be a Special Education Teacher in a Self-Contained classroom. That means that I work with students who struggle with multiple disabilities that prevent them from being within a general education classroom. Technology is a very large and important part of my day.
Due to some of my students disabilities, many of them are unable to read. The use of technology, allows me to give them the opportunity to read with programs that will read the text to them. This allows my students to enjoy books without the frustration of struggling to read themselves. I also have some students who struggle with severe anxiety and aggression, and they are afraid to hold a book in their hand because they might rip it. By allowing them to use a computer, they are are able to access books without the fear of destroying them. This allows them to develop a love for reading without the fears that come with an actual book.
Technology is not only utilized for reading purposes. Math is a huge part of a students academic day and the use of technology allows me to give them access to many visual manipulatives and programs that can help them succeed across all academic areas.”

Funded Dec 12, 2017Being a special education teacher is one of the most rewarding and difficult jobs. Not only do I work with children who struggle with disabilities but many of them come from extremely poor families. I can not thank you enough for helping me to provide my students with not only differentiated work so that they can be successful, but for also allowing me to provide them with the activities and resources that add alittle bit of happiness to some very difficult and rough days! I hope you know what an incredible gift you have given my class and myself and I want you to know how very appreciative we are!”

Funded May 26, 2017It's hard to describe in words how appreciative my class and myself are for your donations! Upon receiving the items all of the boys faces lit up! Many of them never thought that anyone would care enough to donate to the classroom.... I have never seen them want to read so much. Everyday when I give them free time more of them run to the library section then ever have before. The look in their eyes as they explore the new books could take your breath away.. there is no way for me to ever thank you enough for what you have done for these boys, you gave them more than just books and art supplies, you gave them the feeling of love!!!!”
