Technology Helps Us Learn to Read
Funded Apr 16, 2012This is just a small token of my appreciation for your generous gift! In just the one short week we have had the computer the children have learned so much! Not only are they gaining academic knowledge with the apps I was able to download but they are gaining valuable technology experience! Watching them learn (quickly I might add!) how to maneuver the mouse pad/tracker was absolutely the most enjoyable part for me. They are definitely receiving the opportunity to have the kind of experiences their higher income peers get to have! Thank you once again for giving them this invaluable gift! It will be something they remember for a lifetime!”

Constructive Outdoor Play
Funded Dec 19, 2011My class has never been so excited to go outside to play! As you can see from the pictures we have a "tar lot" to play on. Having these new materials has been so engaging for them!
We took a vote and the results were that the favorite item was the bouncy balls! The most strenuous piece of equipment ordered turned out to be the favorite! Their second favorite is the basketball hoop. Having a class of mostly boys you can see why this is a favorite! I love to see them emulating basketball players!
My favorite items are the ring toss and beanbag toss because it is teaching them academic skills and exercising their brain as well. It has been an absolute joy to watch them be excited to go outside and play HARD! Thank you so much for your generous donation!”

Funded Nov 17, 2011I am so grateful for the leveled readers all of you have provided my class with! We have been using the books for about 3 weeks now and I can already see a difference in their reading ability! It is truly an amazing feeling to hear kindergarteners reading for the first time!
All of them are coming along in their own special way in reading. I wish I could provide a recording of some of them reading these books for you! Some of them sound out words they don't know and use the picture to help read the word or understand the sentence. Those are skills that I can only demonstrate. With these books they can actually try it out for themselves!
Thank you once again for giving them the gift of reading!”

Funded Sep 1, 2011We are ever so grateful for your generous donation to our class. The children LOVE playing with the items we received. The girls love the baby doll the most and the boys are leaning toward the pilot and firefighter. They didn't even know what a pilot was before the play equipment arrived! This led us to read stories and have discussions on pilots, airports and planes. It was fantastic! My favorite (of course) is the 3 drawer chest for organization. It certainly helps us all to keep the area clean! My students favorite play area is the dramatic play area now and I know it is because of your generous donation. They truly enjoy being able to pretend to be adults and what I enjoy is seeing them act out what the different people do!For these children it is so vitally important that they have this opportunity to learn about the different careers people can have. Through this dramatic play center they get the chance to act it out. Most of the people in our school community have minimum wage jobs. They also don't speak much English which limits which jobs they can take. On top of that there is a lot of gang activity in the neighborhood. Since I posted this project more murders have taken place and recently there have been attempted child abductions. As you can see the children don't have many role models of careers that can move them to a more stable place in life. You have given this ability to aspire to these careers and for that I will be forever grateful. Working at a school like this gives me such great joy when I see I have reached even just one student. You have helped me reach the whole class! We are so very thankful for what you have done for us. Thank you!”
