A Bright Way to Learn
Funded Oct 9, 2021I have to tell you when the packages arrived and were brought into my room the class was super excited! When they found out it was for them to use they were even more excited! It made them feel special! I got everything out and ready for the next day. It has been a favorite learning spot ever since! I did not want any part of it to sit so I found ways to incorporate other pieces such as the sorting plates. What this did was excite them when they were able to transfer what they did with mini erasers to transparent manipulatives! It has been a source of not only joy but great learning this year! Thank you!”

Funded Feb 11, 2022I am incredibly grateful that you were willing to donate to my classroom and assist me in giving my students as many different learning opportunities as possible. It really helps children to grow and develop when they can experience academics in a variety of ways! We appreciate you and your efforts!”

Funded Sep 28, 2021The vacuum and masks have been an invaluable resource for our classroom! We have been able to keep illnesses down to one of the lowest rates in the whole school! I absolutely love being able to keep our carpet clean with the vacuum. The little ones can only pick up so many scraps before it begins to feel like a chore rather than something fun! It is so well made that it is easy to empty as well. It is so important for the students to have a clean place to work in as they are with me for 6 hours a day! It makes a difference!”

Funded Jul 6, 2021When my students first saw the resources it was like looking at the greatest gift in the world! They were so excited to work with these materials! In our school our classrooms are very small. It is difficult to set up centers with limited space, limited tables, and limited shelving. So to make do, I put the materials on my bookshelf and they are allowed to move the materials to whatever place they feel comfortable using them. Most of the time they play on our whole group carpet and is usually their check-out station (but the register does travel to a table occasionally!). It is because of this limited space the entire classroom becomes a grocery store! They travel throughout as if they are shopping the aisles! What I am finding interesting is how this is helping them to simulate real life. As they began moving to a table to check-out they realized how much more store-like that was. This is a major developmental growth area as children feel success when they can take ownership!
In addition, with a small group of children we tried to play the money exchange game but my little kinders were not ready yet for the concept. It was fun only when I was there helping them to understand how to exchange the coins.
We are just at the beginning stages of working with the materials. In kinder that means we learn through exploration! By February or March we will be ready to complete the project I have in mind which is to create a shopping list, figure out a budget and take a field trip to the store! I can't wait!”

Funded Feb 1, 2021Now that we are back to in-person learning my students are finally able to use these materials! I began by teaching them how to use the materials in a focused small group. Once I was confident they could use them appropriately they were set out in an independent center.
They love using these materials and I love watching them grow in their literacy skills. In the centers they are creating words and practicing initial sounds of a word. They are using the magnets to build words, their names and even just letter recognition.
My data has shown an improvement in letter recognition and sounds across the entire class since we began using these materials. I am certain this is directly related to these materials. Thank you once again for your support!”

I Can See You!
Funded Apr 13, 2021The impact this second screen had on my virtual teaching experience was immeasurable. There was much less frustration from the students and I felt more quality participation. An example of this is with one particular student. She was always frustrated because she would raise her hand and I was not able to see her, whether she was hidden from view or because her square tile was so small I just missed her. By the end of the school year she thanked me for "paying attention to her" and her mother even chimed in and said she noticed a difference! (To which I credited the second screen!) Thank you for helping her (and my other students!) to feel more valued during our virtual learning experience!”

Kinder Math at Home
Funded Sep 16, 2020My students were so excited to get these toolkits! We had a "reveal and play" day where we opened our boxes and explored the materials. They enjoyed every minute of going through their boxes to see what there was and how we could use them.
The math manipulatives have been incredibly helpful in keeping them engaged in math while in distance learning. Not only are they listening to me explain things but they get the chance to work it out themselves and practice with their own hands. 87% of my class can count objects up to 18 and the rest are not far behind! It has been, by far, the best thing my students have had for at home learning.
Thank you so much once again for helping them to be the best little mathematicians!”

Funded May 5, 2020With the pandemic my materials were delayed. And unfortunately we are not yet back in the classroom. However I have had an opportunity to share the items with my son who is close in age. He just loves them! We have had such great opportunities to discuss feelings through the legos and the playdough. He was able to get excellent practice reading with the rebus readers. As we are in a virtual distance learning model, I have been able to read the books to my class via google meet. I have begun with the books that discuss and provoke conversation about emotions, such as Feelings at School, Kids Are Different and Where Can you Find Friends? Now I can move into the readers that are themed perfectly with my long range plans. And as students learn sight words and understand how to read they can begin to read the books for me through their knowledge of how reading works. I am sad I can't share every part of this project with my students yet but it is better that they are safe and healthy.”

Funded Oct 25, 2019The first thing I have noticed with my students is that they have noticed the pictures of other student's projects! They have already tried to recreate the structures that have been posted in the respective areas. That has been amazing to me to see them see it and then try to engineer it! The next milestone will be when I take a picture of what they have made and the next day the child tries to recreate it to build upon it. My hope is that they can work towards expanding their learning and work into greater and bigger ideas!”

Funded Mar 9, 2016My students have truly enjoyed using their new listening center! It has been a joy to watch them be excited over what new book or activity is there. I had kept my book CD's and activity CD's (I even have some old cassettes! ha!) and taught them how to use the radio functions. Working with a CD was MUCH easier for them to understand, which I found fascinating! A cassette was something new to them and when they accidentally opened the door curiosity got the better of them. :) So that brought about history lessons and how the sound plays through the tape. My intention with this new center was to be able to have them improve literacy skills and they gained so much more! They developed a love of books and reading. Their listening skills improved as they had to follow directions on the book CD or activity CD. I also noticed their vocabulary usage improved somewhat as they came to me to ask what a certain word meant. Not only did they get this but they received a history and science lesson through the use of an "antique" cassette! Thank you for your donation and all the learning and joy it has brought to my students!”
