  • Technology for Everyone!

    Funded Feb 14, 2024

Thank you for your incredible donations to my technology iPad project. Due to your donations, I can expand my technology supplies for my classroom. I can continue working with the students on Boom Cards, Kahoot, along with other iPad educational apps that will assist with the student's learning.

As a school, I am the technology facilitator so I have a responsibility for the learning community, so thank you for your support!

I will continue to work with the students to support their learning and growth.

    Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sandberg

  • Technology in the Works!

    Funded Oct 30, 2023

Students in my school program learn best through hands-on learning. Therefore by using technology, my students can showcase their skills in various academic areas.

By using Boom Cards (interactive flash cards) and Kahoot (quiz-based learning), my students have been able to respond to questions related to various academic topics, mostly involving reading and math. Interestingly enough, both verbal and nonverbal students can use technology effectively, as I use picture symbols for supporting my instruction.

By the touch-screen devices, like the iPads funded from this DonorsChoose project, the students can work on the academic tasks in an exciting way!

Some students have been using other iPad apps such as Scratch Jr., which is an app that helps students animate drawings by using child-friendly computer coding systems. The students can use their digital drawings to move in all directions around the screen to make it come alive!

Overall, this has been a very enjoyable experience for my students thus far in technology class.

My students and I want to thank you for your contributions to our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sandberg

  • Technology Classroom

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for donating towards my Technology iPads project to support my students.

In the technology lab, there are multiple desktop computers to be used for the majority of the student population. However, there are select students who require touch enabled devices to interact with the technology equipment. For those students, I am using the iPads I received from this project.

I have been using the iPads to instruct the students using multiple apps such as Teach Your Monster to Read (to build phonics skills), Starfall (for exploration on different educational content) and Kahoot (interactive quiz game in which students respond to questions through multiple choice questions).

The students have been using the Kahoot app more often than the other apps, and they have been benefitting from the ability to directly interact with the screen via touch. I just wanted to update you all on how the project is going. Thank you again.”

  • Reading and Math Manipulatives

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

The students were so excited to see the reading and math manipulative materials! The students have previously been struggling with math number sense and reading and writing.

The math manipulatives have helped the students sort and count by using hands-on tools to support their math skills.

The reading and writing manipulatives have helped the students with their letter recognition and physically writing the letters by using the alphabet magnetic board.

The tools have also sustained their attention as well. Thank you for all your donations to my class project so I can support my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sandberg

  • Music Songwriting and Recording

    Funded Jan 28, 2022

The music recording equipment has helped my students learn reading skills through participating in song practice for an upcoming Black History Month show. We are rehearsing the song "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. The students are beginning to listen to the song and read the lyrics on the Smartboard screen in small parts, so they can sing into the microphone in sync. By using the microphone as a class project, it has been an authentic learning experience for the students. I am excited for the rest of the music project. Thank you to all the donors!”

  • Technological Tools

    Funded Oct 19, 2018

Thank you for supporting my classroom and my students through donor's choose. Your tablets, headphones, and printer donations are continuously being appreciated by my students. Next, I will describe the impact of the tablets, headphones, and printer, which were donated on behalf of you through donor's choose.

Originally, my intention for the tablets was for the students to use them to directly supplement the instruction in my classroom. However, due to my student's needs, I decided to use the tablets for student breaks, as we call it "choice time" during the instructional day. Usually at 2 different times during the day (morning and afternoon) my students have choice time directly after instruction. My students decided as a whole class to use computers (that already are in my classroom) and tablets (donated by you through donor's choose) during this choice time. I was taken by surprise when my students learned quickly (even my lowest academic students) to adjust the headphone volumes independently. My student's ability to be independent whether it be academically or through daily living skills, is a big part of our learning program. Lastly, the printer donated through donor's choose continuously being used to print worksheets in order to supplement instruction in the classroom.

In conclusion, my students always look forward to their choice time during the school day. Due to the technology tools donated by you, we have had less behavior disruptions in my class. This is largely due to the fact that you have donated to my student's well-being. They are all so grateful to use your donations as evidenced by the smiles on their faces when they enjoy their choice time during the school day. I hope you enjoy this thank you package and the photos that are attached.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sandberg

My students have shown their ability to command technology, despite outdated classroom technology. By updating the technology to reflect the world around them, your donations can provide consistency for my students. Consistency is key to the success of my special education students. During choice time, the students can fully access the world around them, while being mobile on their tablets. They can either share what they learned on their tablets with their classmates or use headphones to block out distractions. In becoming independent, they can control their headphones and tablet volumes so they are comfortable in their learning environment. The printer will be used for the distribution of assessments to gauge student learning in ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science. All of these donations will enable my students to become fully engaged in their learning so they will have a successful school year!
