Building a Foundation in STEM!
Funded Mar 27, 2018My students have been so excited to have new building materials to use in our STEM classroom! At our school STEM is taught as a special area class, so students come to my classroom one day a week. My hope in having these materials was that when we had an activity that one group was completed with but another group wasn't finished with yet, these building materials could be used by my students.
The first opportunity a class had to get the new building materials out and use them, a buzz filled the classroom. My students' eyes filled with excitement as they got to "play" with Legos, magnetic blocks, and the other materials. This then motivated the other students to complete their activities, because they wanted to join in the fun.
I hope to add more of these creative building materials to our STEM classroom to continue to foster my students' love for building and creative thinking.”

Funded Jul 3, 2013Thank you again for helping to provide a document camera for my classroom. My students were so excited when the document camera arrived. We had started our school year with the overhead projector, so they were able to see an immediate difference in how materials were presented when the switch was made to the document camera.
Right away instruction in the classroom was made easier with the camera. In the past it was sometimes difficult to give some directions and demonstrate what I wanted my students to create. Now I can place the materials underneath the camera and my students can see exactly what I mean. Many times I no longer have to repeat the directions. My students are able to follow along with me on the very first try.
Another benefit I have seen has been the ability to use the same materials the students are using. I have been able to use their workbooks and textbooks along with them to teach with this year. Many of these are in color and it has been helpful for them to be able to see the same items on the screen that they are seeing in the book. I have been able to zoom in to one section and focus in on one particular area of a textbook that we are studying. This has been extremely helpful; especially at times when the print in the textbook is small. I can make it appear so much larger on the screen.
I have been able to perform science demonstrations under the document camera as well. In the past my students have struggled to see the demonstration. Now that we have the camera, everyone can see on the screen.
Thank you again for your generosity towards my classroom. Having the document camera in my classroom has added a whole new dimension to my teaching!”

Mrs. Lovell
