  • Updating Our iPads for Learning and Sharing!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Thank you very much for your generous donation of the two Apple iPads. The iPads have been an additional resource and tremendous asset to my students. The students have been using the iPads in various ways.

The students are using the iPads to build their digital portfolio of their work with an application (apps) called Seesaw and Chatterpix and do research. The children have been able to complete activities on their portfolio including taking photos of their art/writing and able to clearly audio-record themselves reading their written story. Once it is approved by me and shared within Seesaw, the student will receive feedback from their parents, teacher, and/or other students, often times the same day. The students also use the iPads to access educational apps like Freckle Education, Epic and Zearn.org.

Freckle Education is a paid Common Core-aligned program with resources for math, ELA, science, and social studies that adapts to individual student skills. Freckle has over thousands of math questions matched to all math standards and more than 500 ELA articles that often cover social studies and science standards as well as all ELA standards. There are five reading levels offered for each article. Freckle also promotes student collaboration through their inquiry-based, cross-curricular lessons. Epic! provides instant, unlimited access to thousands of books, videos and quizzes from leading publishers to help students everywhere read, learn and grow. Epic is designed for students to read anywhere Internet is available and the icing on the cake is that it is free to students during the school day. Zearn.org is a math game that integrates a personalized learning experience for every student. Students complete math questions to level up and collect coins.

It has been a joy to see each student use and learn the new technology, but it makes me happy to see how they guide their peers with any of the apps. As a parent, I know it would brighten my day if I saw what my kid was doing in class and could provide feedback to them. Most of the work in my class is done in journals. In my opinion, this is the best and easiest way to keep the parents in the loop. Parents can even invite other family members to join and view their child's posts. I am looking forward to incorporating more ideas and seeing what the children will create with the iPads.

Again, I want to thank you for providing my class with the two iPads. They are being used in a way that is engaging to the students, parents, and teacher. We really appreciate your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Salmeron

  • Rock to the Music!

    Funded Nov 16, 2017

Thank you very much for your generous donation towards the field trip to watch Greg and Steve Productions LIVE! in concert. We all had a great time dancing and singing to all the new and old music sung. It was very exciting for all our kindergarten students and teachers to attend this concert as it make a wonderful connection to the music we have been using to learn in the classroom throughout the year. Music is a helpful tool for teaching many concepts and maximize learning. This concert made the connection between songs we use throughout the school day to teach through music and movement. The music we heard also got the students' brains working again even though they were having a blast. Music like Greg and Steve's allows the students to get a brain break after they have to sit, be still and listen for long periods of time at school.

The trip to watch Greg and Steve Productions was amazing! The students were excited at the beginning to hear about going to see Greg and Steve but they were also happy to ride a school bus. The kids did not expect the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to be so big and beautiful as some kids have never had the opportunity to visit such location. My students loved learning, listening to and singing music, most have never had the opportunity to hear live music from a professional group of musicians. Greg and Steve Productions, provided the students with music and movement, basic skills, motor development, cognitive development, and social-emotional skills that will come to life in this rocking interactive concert!

One of the biggest highlights of the trip was the students going up on stage to sing and dance. The concert gave the children the opportunity to dance to the music they hear in the classroom. Greg and Steve Productions go above and beyond to create an engaging and nurturing feeling to make learning fun and engaging. The children were so excited to be a part of the show and it could be seen across their ear to ear smile. Their enthusiasm was beyond words as they danced walking up the stage and got closer to Greg and Steve Productions. Another highlight was that we all got front row seats which gave us all the opportunity to clearly see, enjoy, participate and dance around by the stage.

Again, I want to thank you for providing our kindergarten classrooms with an great opportunity to watch Greg and Steve Productions LIVE ! at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse and experience the magic of live music. We all had great time including the teachers and parent chaperones. We really appreciate your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Salmeron

  • Show It! Share It!

    Funded Feb 21, 2018

Thank you very much for your generous donation of the kid-proof iPad cases, printer ink, and protective plastic sleeves! The iPad cases, ink and sleeves have been a great resource and tremendous asset to my students. The students now use the classroom iPads with more comfort and properly with the kid-proof cases. It has been very exciting having printer ink (especially color) in class to print student art, student/parent pictures, and classroom assignments/work to display and share with other classmates, parents and the rest of the school community.

The students are using the printer to print pictures of school activities/events and their artwork from Seesaw, beginning to learn to copy and scan to create digital portfolios of their work with an app called Seesaw. The students have also been using Seesaw to create their artwork and able to print and/or share the art immediately. They proudly display their drawing art for everyone to appreciate. This has motivated the students to use technology while they study the style and purpose of art. This experience has allowed them to view that they too have a story that could be told through an artistic contemporary style. In addition, I have utilized the ink to print, copy, and/or scan teacher created homework and other classroom activity sheets.

It has been a joy to see each student use and learn the new technology, but it makes me happy to see how they guide their peers with any of the apps. As a parent, I know it would brighten my day if I saw what my kid was doing in class and could provide feedback to them. Most of the work in my class is done in journals. • iPads for Learning and Sharing!

    Funded Sep 8, 2017

Thank you very much for your generous donation of the Apple iPad mini! The iPad mini has been a great resource and tremendous asset to my students. The students have been using the iPad mini in various ways. It's been a very exciting couple of months as they have learned how to use the applications (apps) I have introduced to them and are becoming more independent in working with the iPad mini.

The students are using the iPad mini to create a digital portfolio of their work with an app called Seesaw. The children have taken photos of their art/writing and audio-recorded themselves reading their written story that goes along with the art. Once it is approved by me and posted within Seesaw, the student will receive feedback from their parents, teacher, and/or other students often times the same day. The students also use the iPad mini to access apps like STMath JiJi and Zearn.org.

STMath JiJi is a math software program that includes game puzzles that start off easy and get more challenging as a student progresses. Zearn.org is a Math program based on Eureka Math/EngageNY and designed to partner with teachers to create a personalized learning experience for every student. Zearn provides Common Core aligned math lessons. Lessons focus on three critical components: deep understanding, fluency, and problem-solving. Self-paced lessons allow for mastery of concepts before unlocking lessons providing the next level.

It has been a joy to see each student use and learn the new technology, but it makes me happy to see how they guide their peers with any of the apps. • Our Room Can Change The World with iPads!

    Funded Jan 31, 2017

Thank you very much for your generous donation of the two Apple iPad minis! The iPad minis have been a great resource and tremendous asset to my students. The students have been using the iPad minis in various ways. It's been a very exciting couple of months as they have learned how to use the applications (apps) I have introduced to them and are becoming more independent in working with the iPad minis.

The students are using the iPad minis to create a digital portfolio of their work with an application (app) called Seesaw. The children have taken photos of their art and audio recorded themselves reading their written story that goes along with the art. Once it is approved by me and posted within Seesaw, the student will receive feedback from their parents, teacher, and/or other students, often times the same day. The students also use the iPad minis to access apps like ChatterPix, STMath JiJi, Prodigy, and Accelerated Reader (AR).

Chatterpix is an app that can make anything talk; art, pets, friends, doodles, and more! It allows the students to take any photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record their voice! They then share with family and friends as a silly greeting, playful message, or creative card what they are learning in class. STMath JiJi is a math software program that includes game puzzles that start off simply and get more challenging as a student progresses. Prodigy is an adaptive math game that integrates Common Core into a role-playing game using a Pokemon-style wizardry theme. Students complete math questions to level up (become more powerful) and ultimately defeat Crios, Prodigy's main antagonist. AR is a computer program that helps me manage and monitor children's independent reading practice. The students select a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. When they finish, they take a short quiz on the iPad. (Passing the quiz is an indication that the student understood what was read.) AR gives parents, students, and teachers immediate feedback based on the quiz results, which I then use to help the student set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. In addition, we utilize Doodle Buddy which allows students to draw on the iPad using a variety of tools and various colors.

It has been a joy to see each student use and learn the new technology, but it makes me happy to see how they guide their peers with any of the apps. As a parent, I know it would brighten my day if I saw what my kid was doing in class and could provide feedback to them. Most of the work in my class is done in journals. • Designing Art Galleries and Reports!

    Funded Aug 4, 2016

Thank you very much for your generous donation of the HP Wireless All-In-One printer and ink cartridges! The printer and cartridges arrived to our classroom at the beginning of the school year and it has been a great resource and tremendous asset to my students and myself. We have have been using the printer in various ways. It has been very exciting having a printer in class to print student art, student/parent pictures, and classroom assignments to display and share with other classmates, parents and the rest of the school community.

The students are using the printer to print pictures of school activities/events and their artwork from Drawing Box and Doodle Buddy, beginning to learn to copy and scan to create digital portfolios of their work with an app called SeeSaw. The children are learning to scan and take photos of their art and include audio recordings of themselves reading their written story that goes along with the art. The students have been using Drawing Box and Doddle Buddy to create their artwork and able to print the art immediately. Now they proudly display their drawing art for everyone to appreciate. This experience has allowed them to view that they too have a story that could be told through an artistic contemporary style. In addition, I have utilized the printer to print, copy, and/or scan teacher created homework covers, desk topper name plates, and classroom activity sheets.

Again, I want to thank you for providing my class with a printer. Without donors like you my students would not be able to print and showcase their artwork in the classroom. It is being used in a way that is engaging to the students, parents, and teacher. We really appreciate your generosity!”

Our little school of 220 (more or less) students has made great gains academically over the past years with the small budget we receive. We are often overlooked because we are so tiny. Our school's budget covers supplies and not much else. My classroom is composed of 24 students that are always engaged, happy, and focused. We are an example of a working community of students, faculty, parents, and staff all working together for student academic success. My hope is that most if not all students will continue to maximize learning and go to college with the needed tools to succeed in life.
