  • To Infinity and Beyond - Games for the Gifted

    Funded Jan 1, 2025

I have been working diligently at my school to build a strong gifted library of games for the students at Sugarland Elementary. The students get so excited when I bring games into the room.

Many of our students at Sugarland are English Language Learners. Quite a few are "newcomers" to our country. What I love about hands-on games is students can show me their thinking without a language barrier. They don't have to speak a word to show me whether or not they can complete the challenge at hand. This allows them to take risks and soar.

Your generosity helped to make this possible! I have started to build an inventory of games. What was once bare shelves are now filled. It is a beautiful sight to see! When I brought out the games from project, the children's faces immediately lit up. The engagement of the students started right off the bat of my lesson when they saw the games and activities. There was a domino effect after day 1 when I started bringing in the games and manipulatives. When I passed by the students in the hall, they would frequently ask "Are you coming to my class today" or "Remember 'that game', can we play it again?' and even "Where did you get this game? I want to ask for it for my birthday so I can play it at home". I've even gotten a few parent emails asking for the name of the game we played because their child can't stop talking about it!

These games will continue to provide an excitement for learning for years to come! Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adkisson
