Here's Hank Reading Club!
Funded Sep 17, 2022Thank you so much for funding this project. I have long thought about doing this activity for my studen6. With your overwhelming generosity my students can practice their reading skills and see their challenges in a positive way. They and I will remember this for a long time. Reading is power!”

Funded Nov 21, 2017Technology and it's use in the classroom is such a hot button topic. There are both proponents and opponents to it in research circles. But I can only tell you what it means to my students. Overall my students are relieved if not enthusiastic to be using the Moby Max app to pinpoint areas to work on that help them close their learning gaps. Having new tablets increases their engagement as the tablets experience fewer glitches in functioning and as we explore what Moby Max can provide the students, we have found some feedback features work better on the new tablets. For example, my students can fully participate in the "sweepstakes" aspect of the application where they have a chance to earn prizes for every 30 points they earn in correct answers.
The fidget bands are just what my squirrely students need to engage appropriately in class but still get their energy out. Seeing those bands go as they do an assignment has also helped me to gauge their affect. I can tell by how they are using them, which student is excited or engaged in an assignment and which is nervous and needs help. So those bands are helping me too!
I appreciate so much your taking the time and thinking of my students. Your generosity to my students has not gone unnoticed by anyone.”

Funded Oct 4, 2015My students received the headphones you provided for us. It has made a world of difference. The students can concentrate on the learning found on their individual tablet. There is much more time on task. I have seen so much progress in their remedial learning.
What I didn't expect is that as time went on and the students were more comfortable with the program set up, they ventured off the headphones. This worried me at first as I did not want them to miss learning and begin making mistakes and increasing their frustration. But they knew to go back to the headphones for support when they needed clarification or to check their thinking. This is an important step for them towards independence.
Having all these supplies from donors like you has made them more conscientious and responsible too. They take good care to pass out and store the headphones appropriately so they will last a long time.”

Funded Sep 15, 2014My students now experience relief with the support they get from the cushy seats, chair bands and squishy balls they have at their disposal. They make the room brighter and create interest. They don't complain so much anymore when they have to do a long assignment because they can still move a hand or a foot!
These resources help them to sustain attention so they can learn more and learn more smoothly. They sit for longer and pay attention longer to lessons. It gets reflected in their ability to complete assignments and complete them well. My teaching is more efficient because I spend less time redirecting them to task. Because they are of different materials, we can mix and match so that students can find the tool that helps them learn best.
My students are more relaxed as they learn, which boosts their achievement. I am more relaxed and enjoy teaching more because they are more independent with their behavior and focus. They love the tools for success!”

Creating Equal Success through Technology
Funded Sep 15, 2014My students, most for whom learning is a struggle, look forward to using the tablets. These tablets let them learn and compete at their level so they feel success. They will ask regularly if they will be using the tablet that day, and if not then, when? When I tell them that the generosity of strangers made this possible, they become a little more conscientious about their responsibility towards the equipment and the activities we perform with them.
We use the tablets on a weekly basis to go on educational websites tailored to their specific needs as students with disabilities. I can see how my students are performing and use that data to inform my real time teaching or assign them extra support on the tablet. Either way, my students have so much fun, they love to learn.
Teaching Special Needs students is always an adventure. However, that adventure gets marred by time constraints. These tablets keep kids engaged and help me to evaluate their needs more efficiently and thoroughly. I can plan better because I can assess better. If I can do that, my students can learn better, have fun and experience success!”
