Tools For Brilliant Writing
Funded Jan 25, 2017Thank you so much for the headphones and wireless keyboards. My students have been able to use them in many, many different capacities.
They have used them for computer programs, for writing using speech to text, and to hear printed text in an oral format. These tools truly change the way they "do" school! They are able to seamlessly use these tools in my classroom in order to train themselves on how to apply the technology in their classrooms and in their own homes. Although they may not have the exact technology at home, they are able to improvise and be more resourceful in finding tools that will help them to be more successful with reading writing and spelling.
The impact of your gift will not be forgotten and my student have benefited from the tools in a huge way. They are able to speak larger vocabulary and not have to worry about the spelling of words. Their writing has become more rich and they feel more successful in turn. My gratitude cannot be expressed enough. You are greatly appreciated!”

Biographies About Dyslexic Geniuses for Dyslexic Geniuses!
Funded Apr 1, 2016My students have enjoyed reading the biographical books that were donated more than words can express. On top of practicing the reading skills they are learning in dyslexia therapy, they are inspired by the lives of these amazing people who have had to overcome extreme obstacles in their lives. They are able to see the good in the world and how the people (most of them dyslexic) have made such an impact on our society.
The comprehension level and discussions created from reading these books are very rich, even though the reading level is lower than most books of this kind of content. These books allow them learn, without having to stumble over their text disability quite so much.
We are extremely grateful for your donation toward this project and it has made our dyslexia learning very meaningful. My students are growing more confidence in themselves and their abilities and these books have been an integral tool for that learning. Thank you to the moon and back!”

Mrs. Y.
This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and 5 other donors. Our Dictionaries Talk!
Funded Nov 8, 2015Thank you so much for your donation to allow my students to have electronic dictionaries to help with their school work. My students who use these devices can describe exactly how they help them and the impact is huge.
Often times, children with dyslexia are not immersed in literature as much as child who does not have dyslexia, and their vocabularies lag behind as result. These dictionaries have so many functions, but one of the most important is they don't have to be confused about what larger words mean and they don't have to just skip over these words when reading if they are not able to decode them because the device reads the words and the definition to the student. This allows my students to become more and more independent with their learning as they grow to become more comfortable with the device and how it should be used.
In addition, my students no longer have to stick to words that are short enough for them spell with confidence. With this device, they can type in how they think a word is spelled and the device will give them a list of words that could be the word they are looking for spelled correctly. This improves their writing and confidence in their abilities immensely.
Although, all of my students benefit from this machine, my students who are gifted/and or have high intelligence levels (this describes most of my students) benefit from them most because they are now able to be unhindered by the printed word or spelling of words. They are able to show their true abilities and how bright they are when these things may have not been evident to others in the past for any number of reasons. Students who spend the most time using the device and practicing its various applications are the ones who really understand how the device can be a great companion to their learning.
Your gift to this project has had a wonderful effect on my students and their learning and I cannot thank you enough. I appreciate you being a partner in the education of my little geniuses more than words can say. Thanks again!”

"Please Help Me with Spelling!"...My Dyslexia Students Said
Funded Mar 23, 2015My students were ecstatic to use these electronic and talking spell checkers/dictionaries in their daily assignments to help them with something that can be so tedious to them. They thought they were fun and at the same time allowed them to become more proficient at reading and spelling/writing. Thank you so much. They have already had a great impact, but will continue to impact my students as they are able to use them more and more for various reasons in their daily education. I am very grateful to you all and so are they!”
