As a Language Arts teacher, I want my classroom library to be the heart of the classroom. Fostering a love of books even in the most reluctant reader begins with having books in your classroom library that will engage them. I want students to be excited to pick out books to read and read not because they are forced to, but because they want to. The books in my classroom are so dated and boring. They are hand-me-downs, from garage sales, and include books such as Sweet Valley High and the Boxcar Children. To me, those are the books I grew up with and love, but to my students in 2018, they have absolutely no desire to read them. I want up to date books that my class would read on their own, such as Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Percy Jackson. I want a variety of texts to include different interests, such as books on sports, books about famous people, and mysteries. These are just a few of the books I included in my DonorsChoose.org project.
