The 21st Century classroom is ever changing as we work to prepare students for innovative careers that may not exist yet. My project incorporates items that would promote creativity, collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and so much more! A sand and water table will provide my students with the opportunity to explore hands-on learning while enhancing their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and social and emotional development. They will be able to search for letters to build their name, explore capacity and measurement, design floating structures, and even test out STEAM creations.
Hands-on learning increases student engagement and fosters the growth of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are some driving forces of STEAM and helping our students to become college and career ready. The products I have selected will do just that! My students would explore coding with Botley, design and create with the Qubits, ZOOB BuilderZ, and Brain Flakes, and complete STEM challenges with the Building Brick STEM challenge kit.
Finding the space to work isn't always easy. The chair pockets are an important organizational tool that would allow students to have their materials readily available, while also freeing up table space necessary for the work they are doing. These chair pockets would hold the students' essential everyday items, including their iPads which they use to document and share their learning with parents and families.
I have noticed the positive impact of STEAM and hands-on learning with my students. Not only are they more excited about learning, but they're supporting each other and beginning to develop the skills necessary to live in the modern world. Please help me continue to open up a world of opportunities for my students as we help to bring their future into focus through our STEAM lens.
