  • Scholastic Magazine

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you for supporting my classroom by gifting us with another year's subscription of Scholastic Action Magazine. This magazine is so helpful in my classroom for differentiation and explicit reading instruction for my struggling readers. It includes several high interest articles that are at an accessible reading level. My students really enjoy the articles and reading activities because they increase reading confidence and have interesting topics to read.

I really appreciate your support in increasing literacy in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • New Year, New Books!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! For this project, I requested several shorter, more accessible books for my reluctant readers.

We devote time each day to independent, choice reading, so I need to make sure I have lots of option for my students! I want to make sure each student can find a few books that meet their interests and reading level.

Your donations have helped several of my students start and finish books for the first time. You are helping foster a love of reading in my students. Thank you again for your support!”

  • Scholastic Magazines

    Funded May 4, 2022

Thank you for helping add Scholastic magazines to my classroom this year. These magazines have been so helpful because they feature high interest articles at lower reading levels. Students who enroll at our dropout prevention alternative school are often behind on reading skills and lack ELA credits. I offer credit recovery through these magazines because they cover nearly all of the ELA standards for 9-12 grade. They also serve as differentiation for students who need a modified curriculum. My students really enjoy having the options that these magazines provide.”

  • Mental Health Is Health

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you for helping me add mental health related learning to my classroom. I teach at a trauma sensitive school where most of our students struggle with mental health problems. Having resources like different books and magazines have been extremely helpful to open up honest and meaningful conversations about mental health issues. Your donation has also helped me to add LGBTQ+ books to my classroom library, which will help with mental health issues as well. It's important for all of my students to see themselves reflected in my library, which includes mental health topics and LGBTQ+ representation.”

  • New Nonfiction Books

    Funded Jan 4, 2022

Thank for for supporting my classroom. My students are struggling, reluctant readers. I am slowly building a classroom library tailored directly to their needs and interests. With your help, I was able to add several new shorter, nonfiction titles which are popular among my most reluctant readers. These have helped increase reading comprehension and confidence. Everyday we read for 20 minutes at the beginning of class, and these are great books for my students because they can read the whole book in a couple of days of reading time, which gives them confidence to keep reading because they finished a whole book. Thank you for supporting my students!”

  • New Learning Resources For The New Year

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for allowing me to purchase Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards. My school has switched to a self-paced, student-led teaching method, so I need to have my units prepared, lessons recorded, and everything in place ready for students who are moving along through the curriculum. Being able to purchase materials through TpT is such a blessing! Instead of spending time creating worksheets, I'm able to spend my time building my lessons and recording them so they are ready for my students when they reach that point in the unit. Thank you again!”

  • Real World Reading

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you for helping add more books to my classroom library! This year I have added a more intentional independent reading aspect to my classroom, and I feel like I am constantly purchasing books that students are requesting. With your help, I was able to put together a fairly extensive reading selection focused on real-world reading. I myself am a huge fan of fiction, but this year I have noticed my students leaning more toward nonfiction. Many of my book selections from my list reflect that need. I'm also constantly looking to make connections across content areas, so many of the books can directly relate to topics in science or social studies class.

These books will be used during our daily 20 minutes of silent reading. I'm so excited to be able to unveil them!”

  • Games for Literacy

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you for helping me add games to my classroom this year. This year we have added a class once a week called Academic Enrichment. This is a time to practice skills needed for class in a fun, interactive way. I can't think of a better way than playing games! With your help, I was able to add games that work on spelling skills like Bananagrams and games that work on storytelling skills like Storycubes and Dixit. I was also able to add some fun poetry-writing activities like magnetic poetry where my students will be able to use magnetic words to move around and create poems. These activities will be a fun way to work on important ELA skills.”

  • Tools for Our Social Emotional, Self-Paced Classroom

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you for your support for my self-paced classroom. My most cherished item from this project has hands down been the xp-pen. Because my classroom is self-paced, I need to have my lessons in the form of videos because my students will be at different places in the unit. The xp-pen allows me to write and draw on my screen just like I would on my smart board while I record the lesson. It makes my lessons more interactive and easier to follow. I'm so grateful for this resource as well as the other items you helped bring to my classroom. Here's to a great year!”

Because my students are mainly struggling and reluctant readers, I want to be able to offer them choices in what they read. We have a small supply of novels to choose from at my school, but many of these novels are more difficult and less engaging for my students. I want to be able to incorporate literature circles, where students choose from a variety of genres and difficulties to find a book that suits them. Incorporating a variety of engaging literature will help my students find books they like and want to read so that they can increase their reading skills.
