The best way to learn about music is to MAKE music. In my elementary music classroom, students spend their time engaged in the act of making music- playing instruments, body percussion, music games, loco-motor movement, composing etc. Much of this time is spent on the floor in a group circle so that everyone can be part of the noisy learning process! My students also engage with music through movement- marching, galloping, dancing etc. Our 45 minutes together are jam packed with singing and exploring different aspects of music.
