  • Feed the Tummy and Brain

    Funded Aug 19, 2024

I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for the delicious snacks you so kindly donated to my students. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and they were truly a hit! Testing days can be stressful and tiring. The mints added a little pep to the student's step and the granola bars held off grumbling tummies. The students were delighted to have snacks for each day of testing.

Your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated, and I feel grateful for you choosing my project to fund. Thank you once again for thinking of us—it really made a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White

  • Fresh Start

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Yesterday was the first day of MakerSpace and your donations were out for the students to see. One student even built a mansion with a fenced in yard. I can't wait to see the rest of donations being used-my club members are so creative, they are bound to surprise me.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to donate. You have given my students the opportunity to be creative, take risks, imagine and explore with a variety of materials. They wouldn't have this opportunity without you. Thank you again for investing in my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White

  • MakerSpace Refresh

    Funded May 8, 2024

I am incredibly grateful for your generous donation to my afterschool makerspace club! Your support plays a vital role in fostering creativity and innovation within our community. With your contribution, I can continue to provide valuable resources, tools, and workshops that empower makers of all ages to explore their passions and bring their ideas to life. Thank you once again for believing in our mission. Together, we are building a vibrant space where imagination knows no bounds! I can't wait to see my student's creativity in action.”

  • Cincinnati to Canada Snacks

    Funded Feb 15, 2024

Our 5th and 6th graders left on Tuesday for the end of the year trip, following the Underground Railroad. As you can see from the pictures, the bus ride is a little more comfortable with the yummy snacks you have provided.

The snacks are keeping up their energy while going to different museums and exploring the path of freedom seekers. For this trip to happen, our school raised $10,000. Your donation allowed us to use the funds we raised on an additional activity while the students are at Niagara Falls rather than using the budget on snacks.

    I truly appreciate your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White

  • Games and Incentives

    Funded Apr 2, 2023

My students had so much fun playing my game show, Zing, Pow, Slam to prepare for the Ohio State ELA test. We played a variety of games with an ELA focus including: Battleship, Stinky Feet, Race to Win, Tic-Tac-Toe, Trashketball, Headbands and relay races. Students had to answer skill based questions, read text and write out answers to gain points.

The points earned by students allowed them to purchase items from my Game Show Store. They loved the variety of materials. The students were engaged and motivated during this Test Preparation Time.

I will definitely be doing this again next year! Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White

  • MakerSpace Refresh

    Funded Jan 11, 2023

I waited to open our special delivery until the day of our Makerspace Club. The students gathered around the table and started a drum roll! I hope the picture of my student with his hands in the air truly shows their excitement.

The students didn't know I had requested this donation on their behalf. I had overheard a student weeks prior saying to another classmate that we needed more Magna Tiles to create something even bigger. The students couldn't get their hands on all the fun items fast enough.

It was so fun to see their smiling faces. They are all so creative and these new materials kept them busy until the last moments. The students did not want to pack up, they wanted to keep creating. Thank you so much for your generosity!!”

  • Author Signing Event

    Funded May 3, 2022

What a wonderful time we had sharing Brown Hands, Black Schools HBCUs with the 1st grade students at my school. They were so excited to have the author read her story to them.

Throughout Black History Month, my school focused on the importance of HBCUs. Many of the 1st graders in particular, speak to the reasons they want to attend an HBCU. Some students are excited to live in a dorm. Some students are ready to pledge as a KAPPA. And some students want to go to all Black school.

In the end, the students received their own autographed copy of the book and were able to share their knowledge with their families. Thank you for giving my students this incredible opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

  • Celebrating HBCUs

    Funded Feb 15, 2022

Last Friday our school ended our celebration of Black History Month by having a Homecoming celebration. Our 1st graders had a parade, sang the Central State song and four students were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Kindergarten, grades 2 and 3 were each given a shirt that said "Future HBCU Grad". A fellow teacher and I used her Cricut to cut and press the letters. These shirts were worn on our Homecoming celebration. One 1st says he can't wait to go to a HBCU and pledge to be a Kappa. It is heartwarming to hear this child thinking about his future. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • She Persisted Book Collection

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation. My female students have enjoyed reading about the She Persisted women. I hold an afterschool Makerspace club and many of my students read my collection of books and were inspired to work on STEM projects. One student is currently making a mini bow and arrow using popsicle sticks and rubber bands after reading about Sally Ride. Other students have "checked out" books from the collection to read at home. I can't wait to see what next figure inspires my students.”

  • Letters Filled With Love

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

As you know this year has been hard for everyone. As a teacher, it is hard for me not give my child a high-five or hug when they are in need of support, encouragement, praise or love.

I wanted to do something that would express my support, encouragement, praise and love in anyway possible. It has been a joy putting together a mini-care package with suckers and small toys for my students. The great thing is that the students have no idea that a package is coming their way!

After completing an online assessment with a student new to our school, I expressed my gratitude to him for his patience while I worked out technical glitches. I thought it would be nice to send him a little treat to show my appreciation. A few days later, I am sitting at my computer and hear the bing of someone entering my Google Meet. Malachi, popped on my meet to say thank you and how much he loved the package. He then headed to his homeroom's google meet.

Thank you for helping me provide support, encouragement, praise and love to my students in these unusual times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White

My students enjoy tinkering and experimenting with the materials I have available to them. The pride that is shown on their faces as they discover how to build a circuit on their own, code a robot or create an optical illusion with paper is priceless. I would like to give my students more opportunities for them to be proud of their work. I have seen my students develop engineering skills. Before they tended to destroy a project that didn't work. Now they focus on the specific sections that are not working which shows they are able to problem solve and understand how the parts work. My students will use the marble mazes, gears, legos and planks to create more elaborate creations. This will also give them the opportunity to stretch their problem-solving skills.
