  • Busy With Braille Rolling Library

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I can’t believe it! We are already fully funded! I can’t wait to get the little rolling library up and moving to support our braille readers. It will be amazing to see them get to experience the magic of selecting their own books from a library of books that are all accessible to them! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whildin

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 4 other donors.
  • Multiage Mission to Maximize Space!

    Funded Aug 11, 2019

Our project has been fully funded! I cannot wait to set up my classroom this week and have the students get to see it next week at our open house. I am sure that the new seating and organization will be a fun fresh start for all of my students this year! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whildin

  • Building Creative Minds in Multiage!

    Funded Jan 29, 2019

The materials we received have changed our classroom! Each morning when students arrive they have about 20 minutes to start the day off with our STEM bins. The students have an opportunity to be creative, work as a team, and talk to their classmates. Some students also use this time to quietly get their day started while they create something amazing.

At math time each day, students complete the daily math activities and then use any additional time to creatively build on the skills they have been learning such as fractions, patterns, symmetry, and comparing numbers.

I have seen so much growth in these students over the year! The STEM bins and Maker Math stations have allowed students to grow in their creativity and flexible thinking. Students are learning skills in math and art and then being able to apply them in new ways with the STEM materials and the Maker Math activities. Thank you so much to all that donated!”

  • iPads to Individualize Instruction and Engage All Learners!

    Funded Oct 17, 2017

When box arrived with the new iPad the students all sat down together so we could open the box. The students were thrilled to open the box and see the new iPad. The iPad was up and running the next day and students were thrilled to be able to use right away! Students have been helping to organize and care for the iPads each day. They carefully put them away in the designated spot, make sure they are charging and clean them when needed.

The iPads are being used by 12 students a day in our math stations! Students rotate through math stations and one station is iPads. Students get 10 -15 minutes every other day to use the iPad for math. They use games that are specifically linked the the curriculum we are working on or as a review of skills we have already learned this year. Students enjoy helping each work through the challenging games.

The iPads are being used daily in reading. I have been able to create a "library" of appropriate books for each reader. Students that need it, have the books read to them while others read the books to themselves. The students love earning badges as they read more and more books.

Students have been writing personal narratives, information books and poems on the iPads. Students each have a folder with their difference pieces of writing. They can add illustrations and I can print their work when it is complete so they can share it with their peers. The iPads have made even the most reluctant writers excited to write!

The iPads have also been used as enrichment. Students have been learning the beginnings of computer coding! It has been amazing to see them work through these challenging tasks by problem solving and working together.

The iPads have helped to engage students in subjects that they are less interested in and they have helped to keep struggling students working. The iPads have made a huge impact on our classroom and we cannot thank you all enough. I can't wait to continue to use them this year and for years to come!”

When the brown boxes arrived, there was so much excitement in the classroom. There were shrieks and oohs as we opened the boxes to find our new iPads! The students were THRILLED! The iPads were up and running in 2 days and we have used them every day since!

In our classroom, there are all types of learners. We have English Language Learners, students with special needs, kinesthetic learners, auditory Learners and many, many, more. Every student is unique and has specific interests and needs. iPads provide another way for me to reach each of these individual learners. Seeing students learn to read is the most amazing thing to witness and the best way to build strong readers is for them to spend time as much time as possible reading. Reading for extended periods of time can be a challenge for struggling readers, English Language Learners, students with special needs and many others. Integrating technology is one way to engage students in text and keep them engaged for longer. iPads give students opportunities to listen and interact with stories in a different way. There are iPad apps that will help students build the skills necessary to be successful readers. iPads provide instruction to supplement the instruction that is already happening. Visuals work really well for many students when they are learning math concepts. Specific apps on the iPad will offer another mode for students to visualize different mathematics concepts. iPad applications also allow students to interact with and manipulate mathematics tools in a new way. iPads offer differentiation not just for struggling students but also for students that need extension from the 1st-grade curriculum. They will allow me to differentiate the instruction for all different levels and types learners.
