  • Project Printing

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

The HP eco tank printer has been a wonderful addition to my classroom. I print many activities for my students that require color copies and I do not have access to a color printer at my school. I have always printed color copies on my home printer, but the ink is so expensive and unfortunately it is on its last leg from overuse.

The TPT gift card allowed me to purchase many engaging science and math lessons that I was able to print on the computer I received from this grant. I also bought and printed files that included brag tags, which I use in my behavior plan to promote good behavior and responsibility.

The students have loved getting updated activities that go along with holidays and events happening currently in our world. They also get really excited when they are given their brag tags and can put them on their brag tag necklaces!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wheelus

  • Flying into Fifth Grade #2

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

This is the second time that I requested help with funding a project to purchase rockets for my classroom. Fifth grade students in my school district are required to take four end of the year state tests in reading, writing, math, and science. These are tough requirements for elementary students. My goal is to provide students with experiences that will help them remember the concept taught rather than just try to hit the topics and have them memorize information to teach the test.

My students integrate the 4 Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking into the subject that I teach them. My students started learning about flight by testing Bernoulli's Principal with airbags, designing parachutes and constructing straw rockets. These activities were leading up to the culminating activity of building and launching their rockets.

All of my students loved building and launching their rockets. Your donations helped provide the materials to give my students an experience that was educational and fun!”

    With gratitude,

  • Current Events in the Classrooom

    Funded Sep 30, 2020

The magazines we received from Scholastic included Scholastic News, Super Science, Science Spin, and DynaMath. I ordered these magazines to supplement the math and science curriculum that we use at our school. Students learn and retain information using a variety of resources and these magazines helped meet the needs of all my students.

I have not been able to purchase these in the past because they are not affordable with a limited budget. Donor's Choose and it's donors allowed me to give my students extra resources to support their fifth grade education.

The students enjoyed reading the articles. The magazines were written with kids in mind and were a wonderful supplement to the classroom textbooks that are provided by the school district. My students were able to see the importance of math and science and how it is used in the real world.”

  • Printing Projects in the New Year

    Funded Jan 6, 2020

I cannot begin to tell you how grateful we are for your donation which allowed me to purchase ink cartridges for our printer. My students and I use our printer each and every day. As a teacher, I have used this printer to create resources to enhance student learning, print out worksheets for my students to practice skills, and print award certificates. My students also love to print their digital works. That includes stories, flyers, brochures, and artwork. Without these cartridges we would not be able to do any of those things. You are an incredible to support classrooms like ours. Colored ink is one of the extra items that helps enhance the learning that takes place in our classroom. We appreciate you more than you will ever know.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wheelus

  • Fuel the Flight Into Fifth Grade With Model Rockets

    Funded Aug 27, 2019

My goal was to provide science experiences that my students would never forget using Estes Rocket kits that would not only spark their interests but also integrate the 4 Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking. My students started learning about flight by testing Bernoulli's Principal with airbags, designing parachutes and constructing straw rockets. These activities were leading up to the culminating activity of building and launching our rockets. Our Estes Motors (fuel) were on back order which resulted in a delay in the rocket launch. When we did receive our motors, we were on track to construct, design, and launch our rockets when we returned from our spring break. The kids were so excited and looking forward to completing this unit. Unfortunately, Covid 19 occurred and we didn't return to our classroom to finish our rocket unit. The kids were really bummed out about it. I plan to use the rockets and fuel as soon as I get a new class and I would like to invite this class to come back to help finish what they didn't get to do!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wheelus

  • Flying into Fifth Grade with Model Rockets

    Funded Jul 10, 2019

Our school has to work to maintain its Title One assist school status, which means that a large percentage of our students are on the low end of the socio economy that makes up our community. We receive funds from the state and county based on the number of students in our school and also on the number of students that qualify as low socioeconomic status students. Many of our families do not apply for free/reduced lunch which is used to help fund our schools. These guidelines restrict the money and extra help our school receives. Based on limited funding, teachers like myself to look for other ways to provide our students with the "extra items" that otherwise would not be provided. The Donor Choose Donor program and donors like you allow teachers to go above and beyond and provide the extra's for students.

The model rockets that you helped purchase for my classroom are about to be constructed and the kids are so excited to participate! On behalf of my students and myself, I wanted to truly thank you for your generous donation.”

  • Engineering and Design: Parachute Drop or Flop

    Funded Jun 4, 2019

The Donor Choose Donor program and donors like you allow teachers to go above and beyond and provide the extra's for students. The future of our children relies on the quality education they receive and your donation allows my students to have access to supplies that will enhance their learning experience. Our school does not receive a lot of funding and teachers like myself are always looking for ways to give our students that "extra" to make learning fun and memorable in the classroom.

The kit you provided to my class allowed them to use their skills to design and test parachute models. The engineering and design process teaches students real world skills like communication and collaboration that they need to be successful in and out of school. The students loved being able to work together to build and test their models. These are moments that the students will look back on and remember with fondness. These skills will follow them and it is my hope become part of the person they become. Thank you so much for your donation and for investing in the future!”

  • Printing and Publishing the Works of "Elementary Einsteins"

    Funded Sep 14, 2018

Our school has become a Title One assist school which means that a large percentage of our students are on the low end of the socio economy that makes up our community. Although our school receives some funding from the state and county, it has restrictions on how it can be spent. Technology is the future of our children and your donation allows my students to have access to what they will be seeing outside of school in the real world. The HP colored printer and ink that I have purchased with your donation have encouraged my students to be more focused on the math and science skills that they have to master in fifth grade. It has also encouraged more creativity in their projects.

This was the second time that I requested help through Donor Choose Donors. Your donation and comments boost my confidence to continue searching for ways to keep my students engaged in their own education. On behalf of my students and myself, I wanted to truly thank you for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wheelus

My students love science and my goal is to equip my classroom with resources that provide my students with opportunities to incorporate math and science so that they will see the connection between math and science in real world situations. I was fortunate to have my first grant funded for Kindle Fire Tablets and a store and charge station to go along with the tablets. My students enjoy using the tablets and I would like to extend the use of the tablets by having the students publish the work and projects that they complete through the printer and ink that I am requesting through this grant. The addition of the printer and ink will allow every student to continue on the path to become the "Einsteins" that the world is waiting for!
