Engaging and Increasing Writing Fluency
Funded Nov 4, 2023Thanks to your generous support, my English Language Learner students are able to use a much more portable device (ipad mini) in the classroom. This has allowed them to participate more fully and has increased their engagement.
Without the contributions to our classrooms, teachers often spend their own money on resources. By having this platform to raise funds for needed supplies, we don't have to spend our own money. While this may seem like a small thing, it is huge for teachers!
Thank you so much for your consideration of Nevada educator needs.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Nevada Department of Education.Reading is Magic!
Funded Apr 24, 2018The addition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to our classroom has had an amazing impact! Kids that were reluctant readers have been excited to read every day (some for the first time ever). Students have been enjoying reading along while sitting in my "flexible seating library" on couches and beanbags. Each day I read a chapter aloud and show the pictures from the illustrated copy. Even 8th graders enjoy being read to from a picture book!
The impact on day to day work in the class has been more than I had even hoped for! Students have been using examples from the reading in classroom discussions and arguing over many aspects of the novel (like whether or not Harry should have jumped on the broom to get the Rememberall from Malfoy!). We have also been able to connect the reading to our journaling this year, as we talk about growth mindset. They are learning to think more deeply about how reading this book connects to their lives and their willingness to change and grow (like Harry) as people and students. We have also followed up much of our reading with articles about how reading Harry Potter teaches tolerance of minority groups such as immigrants, refugees or the LGBT community.
I think my greatest success was when a particularly reluctant reader came and told me that this Harry Potter book was pretty good after all! Thank you for helping me bring the magic to my classroom! I cannot thank you enough for your donation!”
