A Space to Calm Down
Funded Jan 11, 2023"A Space to Calm Down" has helped my students with their emotional health.
My students were so excited when we first received the materials for our Calm Down Corner. They loved the oversized beanbags and the other calming tools. Before we only had one beanbag that everyone fought over or raced to get. Now everyone has their own. It has made using the area more pleasurable for the students and adults.
My students and staff use the area to help them focus their thoughts when they are feeling frustrated, sad, angry, triggered, or excited. For example, one day my students were over stimulated after a school wide assembly for International Heritage Day. Upon return to the classroom, they immediately went to the Calm Down corner to destress. Having that space for them to regulate their bodies and emotions allowed them to be better able to participate in the rest of the day's activities.
I'm so appreciative to Donors Choose for helping me provide this much needed area for not just the students in my class but for all of the students in our school.”

Squiggly, Giggly, Goo
Funded Dec 3, 2019My class has truly been blessed by your generosity! Thank you for providing physical stimulation tools that students with Autism need to help them with their emotional health by giving them a way to release anxiety. These tools will also help with their social development because they will provide opportunities for the students to engage in play with their peers. 🤗🥰🤸🏾♀️”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you so much for supporting our project. My students are struggling readers and need extra support in that area. We use our computers to access reading and math software on a daily basis so the headphones take a lot of abuse and wear out quickly. By providing funds so that we can replace them, you have helped my students continue learning in a way in which they can interact with what's being taught. This will help them to process and retain the information better. Please don't stop giving, know that your support really makes a difference in the lives of students!”

Funded Jan 8, 2015Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. Your donations allowed us to purchase computers. With the computers we were able to access a software program that is geared towards students with Autism. The program has taught my students problem solving skills, social skills, as well as academic skills like reading and math. I especially like the social skills instruction. I am able to use it as needed to reinforce or introduce skills my students could use to get along with each other and in the community. For example, if they are experiencing a problem with sharing, I can pull out the lessons that teaches sharing. If they are having a problem with personal space, I can pull out the lesson for that. The students learn, and remember, so much more from this program than they would have if I had spent hours teaching the same thing. You have help to change the dynamics of my classroom immensely! The skills they have learned so far, and the skills they'll continue to learn, using this program will help them the rest of their life.”

Providing Access for Struggling Readers
Funded Feb 1, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations. Your donations helped open up a new world to us. We were struggling readers so many times we did not understand what we read because we spent so much time trying to figure out the words in the story. Now we can enjoy the same age appropriate, high interest stories that our peers enjoy. Our reading skills have improved and we no longer resent having to go to the library to read. We are also learning phonic skills using the LENOVO tablet. We do phonics matching activities on it. It makes learning fun.
Thanks again for your help.”

Funded Dec 5, 2011Thank you for supporting our class. The money you donated provided materials to help us in Math. We have a hard time remembering Math concepts due to our learning disabilities, so we have to find other ways to learn the information and games helps us do just that. Learning concepts by playing games make us more eager to learn because we are engaged and having fun. Also, playing games helps us to develop our Social Skills. We use the games to learn about fractions, addition, subtraction, and multiplication as well as fair play and taking turns. Now we know how to practice applying these concepts to every day life. Once again, our class really appreciates your support. ”
