Funded Nov 10, 2021The basic materials from this project have been put to use in numerous ways. I have been able to prepare teaching materials to supplement the learning. For example, I have created vivid, colorful resources to support their literacy learning. The students also enjoy the learning games and interactive activities that I have been able to make for them, giving them fun and engaging ways to practice their reading skills. The whiteboard materials are used regularly to further support the students' practice and learning. My students and I are grateful to have these materials and look forward to using them during our intervention time!”

Funded May 6, 2021Thank you for funding this project. The touchscreen laptop has made a tremendous difference to the intervention I provide to my struggling readers. The laptop enables me to model and explain the concepts we are working on. For example, I am able to write on the screen to demonstrate proper printing of letters. I can also show how to analyze words and passages for the spelling patterns and high frequency words we are learning.
The touchscreen also lends itself to more student involvement. With the help of a projector, the students can all see what I am doing, allowing them to follow along during guided practice. I have also provided the students with a stylus, adding an exciting element of student participation to our use of the laptop. The students can use the stylus to write on the touchscreen, to click and drag objects on interactive slides, and to tap answers to reading and spelling games. This has definitely increased their engagement and enthusiasm during lessons, especially for students who are not as comfortable answering verbally. The touchscreen lets students "show" what they know in a new way.”

Funded May 4, 2021The Osmo reflectors have been a wonderful addition to our intervention classroom. They were such a surprise for the students, especially when so few were familiar with Osmo. The students were quick to understand how the reflectors could be used and excited to be using something so innovative that could also support our social distancing.
The students were amazed when they first saw the reflectors. They could not believe what such a little device could do for our learning. They were thrilled to be using something that could so easily share what they were working on.
The Osmo reflectors will continue to be used and enjoyed by the students. The students are able to easily demonstrate their learning for others, which provides opportunities for them to further build their understanding of the skills and concepts we are learning. With our emphasis on multisensory activities, the Osmo reflectors give students a chance to interact with their learning in a new and innovative way. This has had a noticeable impact on their engagement and enthusiasm for learning.”

Funded Feb 8, 2021With my students learning remotely, technology has been essential to my work. I meet with students for reading intervention using Zoom during which I strive to engage them in learning the literacy skills they have struggled to acquire. To try to maintain their focus and interest in learning through a computer screen takes determination, skill, and creativity. Donors Choose has helped me do that with this project.
The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards I received opened up so many possibililties for me and my students. With so many different kinds of resources available, I was able to choose those that would best support my students' learning. And being from actual educators putting these materials into practice, I was confident in what I was purchasing.
The gift cards enabled me to find resources for all students, even those struggling the most. I know the mateials have made a dfference in my students' reading progress and their data proves it. I look forward to continuing to use the resources with my students.”

Making Reading Accessible and Fun!
Funded Nov 16, 2016The Storyworks Jr. subscription enabled me to engage my students with rich text and visuals. The students were able to read and interact with a different kind of text than what they are used to reading. The magazine-like format and the high-interest text gave the students a novel reading experience.
With Storyworks Jr., the students became more interested in reading. They were often looking for more information on a topic we read about in one of the issues. It was great to see the students become more curious about something they learned about and apply their improved reading skills to find out more. Many students also often chose to reread some of the articles when given the opportunity to read.
The Storyworks Jr. subscription was especially helpful with some of my more struggling readers. Being able to access most of the text and make connections seemed to encourage these students and help them see themselves as readers. They looked forward to each new issue and so did I!”

Can You See What I See?: Learning with a Document Camera
Funded Jan 1, 2011My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations that enabled us to have a document camera to use in our classroom. This technology tool has been put to great use in helping me to teach my students and helping my students to learn. Their varying learning styles and abilities means I need to incorporate different ways of teaching. Just as I expected, the use of technology has been an effective way to engage my students and get them more excited about learning. We appreciate your willingness to support the learning of students with special needs. The students have responded well to the use of the document camera. During lessons, they are able to see when I am trying to model for them. I can more effectively explain concepts and processes by showing them as I do what they will be expected to learn and be able to do on their own. The students can follow along as I present it to them, step by step, which they can then carry out on their own papers. They are often more attentive and interested when the information is being presented using the document camera. It has proven to be an indispensible tool for all the subjects I teach: reading, writing, and math. The students have also enjoyed having the document camera available to them during lessons. Not only does it engage them in learning, the students can also show off what they have learned. They are often given the opportunity to display their work in order to share it with the group. The students are proud and eager to share what they have done and created. Having them explain their thinking also reinforces what they have learned and makes it a more memorable experience for them.
Thank you again for helping to make these new learning experiences possible for my students!
