  • Teaching/Learning Health Takes Guts!

    Funded Oct 30, 2024

The students and I are very grateful for the support and generosity! Upon revealing the new health materials, the students were fascinated; there was a lot of "oohs," "ahs," and even "ewws" as they realized and studied what the inside of their body looked like.

These hands-on materials and activities, along with the text, have really elevated engagement, curiosity, and overall learning experience. Rather than dreading health because it is just another textbook, the students show excitement and automatically ask if they'll be able to use the "cool stuff."

Thank you so much for giving us this fun, new learning experience!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vazquez

  • Making ELA a YAY, not a NAY!

    Funded Jan 19, 2024

My students and I are so grateful for the new resources and materials we received with your help! The items have been used during small groups and during whole group.

At small groups, students are in homogenous groups working on targeted areas, usually their area of struggle or need. When working in heterogeneous groups, students of all levels are grouped to play/ work together so they're given the opportunity to learn from each other. As a whole group, we have been having discussions, quick writes, and whole class game days (with synonym and antonym bingo, vocabulary board game, etc). The resources have also been helping the students prepare and review for state testing in a fun way.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vazquez

  • My 5th Graders: "New Kid(s)"

    Funded Aug 10, 2023

As 5th graders, most students come in excited and ready to finish elementary with a bang. But they are also uneasy because they know BIG CHANGE is coming their way. Now that we are approaching the end of the first semester, anxiety levels are rising every time they look at the regressive count down on the board. Students are asking more questions about middle school as well as applying for/choosing which middle school to go to. The stakes are high and change is approaching faster than they were expecting.

The students are extremely grateful and excited with their new books, "The New Kid". This class set of books is intended not only to have students practice their reading skills, especially fluency and prosody, but it is also intended to strengthen their social emotional health. This book will help get a snippet of what social life in middle school could be like. The academics are only part of it and thats what students as of most. But they forget about peer relations, self identity, conflicts resolution, etc. And I believe that these areas are the toughest parts of the BIG CHANGE that students endure.

Due to your generosity, my students will get to empathize and learn about a middle schoolers life as "The New Kid".”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vazquez
