  • Fuzzy Writing

    Funded Dec 8, 2024

The Fuzzy Journals were such a big hit with my kiddos. They absolutely loved them. My students have been using their journals to jot down their emotions on a daily basis. It is incredible to see them use their pens and not their words to express feelings that might be considered hurtful to others. Or use their journals to write about feelings that they may not wish to share with anyone.

The journals have without a doubt enhanced my students self-awareness as well as reduced stress. The journals have fostered creativity and have supported my students goals to live their best selves. Journaling has been an eye opening and powerful practice among my students.

I am so grateful that you helped to give my students a personal space to regularly record their thoughts and feelings.”

    With gratitude,

  • Kindergarten Was A Bucket of Fun

    Funded Jun 2, 2024

My name is Mrs. Vargas-Solla. I was the kindergarten teacher at P.S. 770 last school year and because of your generous donations my kindergarteners received a special gift.

They each received a beach bucket which included the bucket, shovels, a journal, invisible ink writing pens, two books to read over the summer, ices, and a bunch of other things they would find useful over the summer.

We don't know how we can ever show our true appreciation and gratitude.

Without supporters like you, we would not be able to provide our kids with things they would not otherwise have access to. You have truly made a difference .”

  • Weather or Not

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

My students were ecstatic with the new resources you helped to provide. During our kindergarten weather unit, students learned about the different weather types and temperatures. They used the resources donated to create several wonderful hands-on projects.

Our goal was to build a playground that would sustain or at least try to sustain all types of weather. Kindergartners used their creativity and imagination by building and adding trees to shelter their playgrounds from the sun. Others built tunnels to keep out the rain and wind. Some covered their playgrounds with canvases to keep out other types of elements. My kindergartners were exceptionally creative.

In the end, they had a lot of fun collaborating and working together. Students also created weather vanes, as well as weather posters. They were super excited to share all their creations with families and friends.”

  • Couch Not Slouch

    Funded Aug 26, 2023

At times we are unable to acquire the items requested so we are asked to choose replacement items which is what I did for this project.

Since our Kindergarten class was in need of a listening center table your donations helped to fund a table which my students are making great use of. The center allows students to quietly listen to some of their favorite stories, like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Additionally our Calm Down Area now has a wonderful addition. The 2-Seater Kid Couch with a Big Ottoman which you helped to fund has provided a safe space for my kindergartners to go to if they need a quiet place to rejuvenate or just need a mental health moment.”

  • Camp Read-Away

    Funded Mar 12, 2023

As you will see, "Camp Read Away" was so fun! I think I enjoyed it more than my kindergartners did. I couldn't help but love and enjoy the fun this day brought my little ones. The amount of fun they had was unbelievable.

The camping gear, the lights, the electrical s'mores maker, the decorations, the star projector, the tents oh my! It was truly a day to be thankful for. I can't begin to explain how much happiness you all helped bring to my kindergartners on Reading Day.

Some of them have never experienced camping and might never, but you helped to give them such a remarkable experience that I know they will not forget. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vargas-Solla

  • Survived Kindergarten

    Funded May 18, 2023

Unfortunately the Kindergarten T-shirts were unavailable but I have to say that the replacement items have been a Godsend. Among those items are our new Farmers Market Stand with Pretend Cash register that has already provided hours of fun learning for my Kindergartners. The looks on their faces is priceless as they pretend to be vendors.

Since my kindergartners are now beginning to learn how to read the reading phones which provide auditory feedback whisper is already helping to accelerate reading fluency and word pronunciation. They are experiencing such joy hearing themselves read.

The cute animal curtains which adorn our class room has helped to make our classroom aesthetically pleasing to look at. It has made our space a beautiful place to be in.”

  • Add On's To Our Normal Reading Day!

    Funded Jun 14, 2022

After humbly asking for donations towards our Reading Day project, the Reading Day

Committee thought about how wonderful it would be to add to the fun. As a result I put

out a second Reading Day project which you quickly funded. Your generous

contributions allowed us to reward students and add to their fun. We really didn't think

we would attain this goal on time but this is a testament to donors like yourselves who

care about our children and our communities. Your extra donations of treats and prizes

    made our day glorious.”

  • A Normal Reading Day?

    Funded Apr 16, 2022

I simply cannot begin to describe the joy your generosity brought to our P.S. 770

community. And, I say community because as it turns out our adults were just as

excited as the students. The day really set the tone for the rest of the year. It was a

truly amazing day. Because of your donations our Reading Day was a huge success.

The school looked beautiful and there were smiles and laughter everywhere. It was

truly a normal Reading Day because of your generosity. We could not have asked for

a better day and you made this all a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vargas-Solla

  • All Work and No Play Makes K a Bored Bunch

    Funded Dec 4, 2021

One of my students referred to the boxes of resources coming in as "Christmas before Christmas." Boxes started coming in a few weeks before Christmas and the anticipation and excitement was amazing to watch. It grew by the day. Since all of the donations did not all come in at once everyday the thrill grew. Students came in asking about deliveries every single day.

We are utilizing the resources in groups, partnerships, and individually to play and learn. Children of this age are so very impressionable and to them its all play. They don't get that it's mostly learning. Of course we have socialization which is key during these early stages but even then they are learning. The educational toys that were made possible through your generous donations have forever changed their little lives.

Our next project is all about Reading Day. We have been fortunate enough to have acquired the necessary books needed for our "Books Around the World Day," but shopping bags and book markers will certainly add the final touches. Thank you for helping me to change the life of children.”

    With gratitude,

About 99% of our children come from poor homes and receive free meals daily. Many of the parents do not speak English and are not even able to help with homework. They are already disadvantaged. Getting them on the right path from the very beginning will make all the difference in the world. If they feel like they have a chance then I am certain that they will have a chance. Many do not realize that the first few weeks of school are the most crucial. During this time we establish routines and organization skills that build and last throughout the year.
