I work in small groups for 40 minutes every day. I try to make their time with me interesting as well as educational. I am constantly looking for new ways to encourage and inspire them. We do a great deal of hands-on activities. Lessons often include games, puzzles, read aloud plays and writing activities. By giving my students activities that are interactive, I help them to understand that reading interacts with everything you do in life. I currently use dry erase boards and pencil and paper for written responses such as comprehension and/or phonics. I use manipulatives such as magnetic letters and letter tiles for phonics and word building. This works for the younger students, but the third and even some second graders feel this is too juvenile for them. The SMART board is a wonderful tool, however, it can only be used by one child at a time. I hate to use paper and pencil unless it is something for documentation. Dry erase boards take up time and are messy. Boogie boards are small, handheld electronic writers. Boogie Board is the most common brand of these ewriters and how most commonly refer to this type of ewriter. Boogie boards would make it more difficult for a child to "peek" at another's response. Thus, helping me better assess each students' need. If I receive enough boogie boards, I would like to be able to send them home one or two nights a week to complete after school tasks. By using the app, I will be able to see and monitor their work. I feel that boogie boards will be a wonderful addition and eliminate the use of dry erase boards and limit the amount of paper used.
