My students are kind and compassionate. They work hard to take care of one another. We are a school family, and for many of them, it is the most supportive family they have. My students are in love with books of all kinds, even though many of them are struggling readers. They love to talk to one another about books, write about books, and recommend books to friends. Our classroom library is the jewel of the classroom. They have personal ownership in the books we select and treasure them. We have four classes, 100 students, that would benefit from these wonderful books. I teach social studies, reading and writing and tie literature into every aspect of the curriculum. Our school is an at risk elementary school in Michigan.
