My 3rd and 4th grade students come from all walks of life, some of them are first generation Americans. Raising any child is hard. Raising a child in a country that is unfamiliar is even harder. Raising a child in a country that doesn't speak your native language and has a significant disability may seem impossible at times. Our school is full of diversity in both students and experiences. Our students have grown up in a school that embraces children for being children. Students at our school have been raised in a culture that embraces diversity in all forms. A student with special needs is seen no differently than a student who has faced little adversity in life. My students face many behavioral and cognitive challenges. They learn best through authentic and interesting experiences. The materials we are hoping to obtain will be engaging and relevant for their unique learning styles.
