"I wrote this for you!" - one of my students says, handing me a piece of paper as she walks through our classroom door one morning. It's a letter about why she loves school. She has used transitional words, like we have practiced time and time again. There are eraser marks all over the page where she edited her writing to correct spelling or change a lower case letter into a capital letter and a "carrot" or two squeezed in between words so she could add an adjective to make her writing more descriptive, as she has also learned to do. Knowing where we started, she has come a very long way. THIS is why I teach; witnessing a kid applying all that we have worked on over the weeks and months. THIS is why ALL teachers teach.
