  • Showcasing Student Math Work!

    Funded Aug 16, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations! With this film, I was able to post pictures of student work and keep important documents laminated. My students are so appreciative that they are able to see their work showcased. With the lamination packets, I could easily preserve student work, important visual aids in the classroom, and resources that students could refer to when completing assignments. I have laminated multiplication charts, graphic organizers, and important charts. My documents last longer and I am able to reuse them for years to come! Thank you again for continuing to support my students and my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Valdriz

  • Seating & Eating in Resource Class

    Funded Jan 26, 2023

My students and I are beyond thrilled with all of these goodies! They have come in handy to reward and encourage participation in my classroom.

Each day, after a full period of learning, my students can earn snacks for having a great day. Depending on the student, we also have students earning multiple snacks on behavior trackers. This helps to improve their overall behavior in their general education classrooms.

My aide and I also hand out snacks to hungry students. We let them know that they are available when students come to school without breakfast. This donation has been so helpful with ensuring that students can learn without being hungry. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Ink for IEPs!

    Funded Sep 3, 2022

It has been so helpful to receive this donation of ink cartridges for my class printer. I have been able to print my IEPs without hesitation and it has made my case managing run seamlessly. I am also able to print worksheets for students right away without having to prep prior to the lesson since things often happen without warning. My students are working hard to stay focused to meet their IEP goals. Thank you so much for your generosity and care for my resource class. It does not go unnoticed!”

  • Sanitary Supplies for Students

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

I cannot thank you enough for providing the necessary hygiene items for my students. My students are constantly asking to go to the nurse for tampons and pads. Having them accessible in my classroom, along with privacy pouches, allow my students to feel secure while decreasing their time spent outside the classroom! My students have even shared with their friends that I had extra pouches, and I was able to share them with other students struggling with starting their periods for the first time. It feels great knowing that my students feel secure in my classroom.”

  • Homemade Math Manipulatives

    Funded Jun 4, 2022

My new Cricut has been such a big help in my classroom! Not only am I able to create labels for student water bottles and folders, I am able to cut out multiple shapes for students to use as math counters! This machine produces die-cuts at such an efficient speed that it makes my job so much easier. I have also cut out letters and labels to provide students with visual aids that help with their math skills.

I am so grateful for your generosity and compassion for my students this year! Having these tools allow me to teach more efficiently and spend less time looking for resources. Thank you again!”

  • All Ears for 8th Grade!

    Funded May 4, 2022

Class has been so much easier with my new Bluetooth speaker. Not only are my students tuned in and better focused, but they are able to process the information presented different avenues and sources. With the speaker included with my projector, the volume was low and unclear. Our new classroom speaker delivers crisp sound that keeps students engaged and learning at all times. In my resource class, students are often in need of different resources. Many of them struggle with hearing so having a speaker loud enough allows them to be a part of our classroom learning. Thank you again!”

  • Staying Cool and Engaged in RSP!

    Funded Jun 4, 2022

Your donations have changed my entire classroom dynamic. It is not only cool in here, but my half moon table allows for me to work with small groups of students at a time who need more support. During the periods that I have a paraeducator present, we are able to facilitate two groups at the same time. Students are more engaged as they're working closer in proximity to me. Thank you so much for all of the care & thoughtfulness that you continue to give me and my students. I cannot wait to continue building a classroom culture that fosters lifelong learning.”

  • Bringing Joy Back to the Classroom

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

My students were beyond thrilled to receive the games and goodies for our classroom. They are such great incentives that allow for students to participate in collaboration and teamwork.

With the pandemic taking its toll on our first year back in person, it has been difficult to find joy in the classroom. We have had many absences and many students are still not motivated to return to school.

With these games to play, my students are finding joy in working together and enjoying school again. We are so grateful fir your generosity!”

  • Rewards for Responsibility!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

It has been quite a struggle for my 8th graders to return to in-person schooling. They are working on relearning classroom routines and practicing safe interactions in the classroom. For many of them, it was difficult to go back to sitting still for long periods of time when they were used to being at home.

Using a raffle ticket reward system has been a success in my classroom. Students earn tickets for being on task, contributing answers to class discussions, and displaying safe practices. Every Friday, I would raffle off different prizes that I would accumulate throughout the week- one of them being the pop-its. My students are so grateful for the them! They serve as a great fidget for students with anxiety and those who cannot sit still.

I just uploaded another project that would provide my students with more games to play with during free time, and a subscription to Scholastic magazine, where they could be more engaged with the colorful pictures and current events. I plan is to finish the year with them engaged and ready for high school!”

  • Help Keep My 8th Grade Classroom Clean!

    Funded Aug 31, 2021

Our school site has been struggling with providing cleaning materials to all classrooms, and this broom and dustpan set has been so helpful with sweeping up my room every day to help out our custodial staff.

Every afternoon, our custodial staff comes into every room and throws out the trash, sweeps our rooms and disinfects surfaces for the next day. I am so grateful for them and I try to help out with cleaning as much as I can! I truly appreciate these donations because it allows for me to pick up quick messes without having to wait for custodial staff to be available. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Valdriz

I teach 8th grade English Language Arts to about 120 students in East Oakland. My students are the reason for my personal growth and resilience. I teach with limited funding and my students are faced with numerous challenges at home and in their community. They are strong advocates for themselves and their families, and I admire their strength and courage to face all adversity and still make it to school. As their English Language Arts teacher, I watch my students progress as avid readers and strong communicators each and every day. They stand together as a class to discuss social issues that impact their community and they take great pride in their town. Most of my students have been exposed to gang and gun violence and family trauma, yet their resilience is extraordinary. My students are learning to find their place and write their own narratives in today's society.
