  • If I See It, I Can Do It, Too!

    Funded Feb 6, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation. Thanks to you, students are loving the task of showing the class the amazing pieces of writing they have worked so hard on by placing them under the new projector for the whole class to see. The newest "job" in the class has been a huge hit as well. We call it IT Team Support; which gives the students the opportunity manage the new projector during the day!

Throughout the day, students are able to see learning in action regardless of the seat they are it. They can come up and do work under the projector and model their thinking for the class, have conversations about the process without having to struggle to see or squish in around a small kidney table.

Allowing all students to follow along during read aloud time has been a blessing and students stay more engaged and excited about the reading and noticing the text structures that support the story being read. No more fighting about who can have a copy of the text ...every one get to see it BIG and BRIGHT right up on the whiteboard.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Trudel

  • Do It-Learn It! Hands on Reading Centers for All

    Funded Aug 6, 2014

I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my excitement in seeing students become successful learners/readers through having engaging practice centers with in our classroom. These tools can make the world of difference.

The tools that you have funded will enable students to enjoy learning to read in an exciting and self-assessing way that helps students build both their confidence and reading skills simultaneously . In addition, for these kids who don't often have the opportunity to enjoy learning through educational games this donation will change that!

I hope to share this wonderful gift within my colleagues classrooms as well as in my own. This will allow other students within my grade level to have an opportunity to enjoy the fun in learning your donation has brought to life too. Thank you so much for your support in making this project come true. I can't wait to introduce these tools to the children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Trudel

  • Help Make Reading And Math Centers "APPsolutely" Engaging!

    Funded Dec 8, 2013

This letter comes to you all with great excitement and appreciation. The twenty-three second grade students in my class are constantly excited to use our tablets each and every day in both ELA and Math. Students use the tablets to strengthen sight word recall, math fact skill practice and even watching science videos to help build understanding. They listen to downloaded stories and use the tablets as a vocabulary builder when reading books without voice support. The students have even started to practicing their typing skills during free time as a reward for positive classroom behavior.

By having this engaging technology tool in the classroom, students are staying engaged and remaining focused on their center tasks longer. This is allowing me more time in small groups with students who are in need of more support to reach their highest success while knowing everyone in class is working on academics!

With your help, my classroom is reaching more students needs and giving every student the chance to be life long successful readers and learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Trudel

This classroom project was brought to life by Pumpkin Foundation and 7 other donors.
This group of second graders from the South Bronx is the most excited about learning I have ever met in my nine years in the teaching field! When I look at them it is easy to forget that 95% of the students live below the Federal poverty line. They have a passion for learning and knowing how everything works! Whether through books or hands-on activities, the students are always on a quest for new knowledge. They often bring in to the classroom information from outside resources such as the public libraries when our classroom resources run out. They constantly ask if I can read this to the class or if may I share my findings with everyone else. These students work hard to know all they can with a goal to constantly strengthen their understanding of the world around them. They are intrinsic learners who not only want to understand the world, but someday become a powerful asset to improving it for us all.
