  • Revving Up With Robotics!

    Funded Dec 5, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this program to bring Robotics to the students of Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School! Your kindness and generosity ensures that our students have the opportunities needed to be College and Career Ready, as well as "Ready for the World" per our District's Strategic Plan. I can't wait to implement the robots into classes!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Touceda

  • Practice Makes Perfect: AP English Language Study Guides

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Advanced Placement classes are the most rigorous available to high school students. Students work at college-level course work throughout the school year, culminating with an exam that if passed earns them college-level credit. I teach an 11th grade class entitled "AP English Language and Composition" that is equivalent to English 101 students take their freshman year in college. If my students pass the AP test at the end of the school year, they are able to waive taking English 101 once they begin college courses. This is an amazing opportunity for students where finances often stand in their way of attending university.

My students begin each class period with these wonderful study guides. The multiple choice section of the AP test is notoriously difficult, but my students practice the skills necessary every class with a 10 question practice test from their own study guide. As you can see from the photos, each student takes pride in the guide they write in, mark up, and use as a true study guide as they prepare for the AP test in May.

We all thank DonorsChoose and all those that participated for their generous donations that facilitated this generous gift. My students have a wonderful opportunity thanks to this wonderful grant. We are forever grateful.”

  • Building Skills for Blended Learning

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

There are not enough words to express my joy, gratitude, and thanks for your generous donations to my professional development project. I am very appreciative of your support for education and creative, hands-on techniques for learning. I'm excited to receive these resources and continue the deepening of my understanding of educational technology integration at the elementary grade level. They will be a great tool as we begin to create using their iPads and the lessons found in these teaching guides and resources. Thank you again!”

  • Reinvigorating Our Learning Lab!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you for making this innovation lab happen! This is such an exciting time for both teachers and students. The Innovation Lab will be a place where students can build and play in a fun, vibrant, engaging space. No more rows of clunky devices, but inn ovation zones of learning ranging from green screens to coding activities!”

  • Writer's Workshop: Building a Student-Centered Classroom Writing Center

    Funded Jun 7, 2019

The resources provided were a great help, thank you!

I used the teaching guides to better hone my feedback skills and help guide my students in their writing. The Bedford Guide for Writing Tutors provided an array of specific, actionable feedback suggestions that I was able to immediately put into action in my writing class lessons as well as providing useful advice about how to share feedback to the class as a whole.

The Writing a Report book was student-friendly and gave age-appropriate advice for young, developing writers.

The pens and markers made for a warm, friendly classroom environment.”

  • Digital Planner and App Organizer All-In-One!

    Funded Jul 2, 2020

Having a digital planner has been so helpful, thank you.

I use it to lesson plan and keep an updated calendar with my students, but the real game-changer has been the ability to digitally handwrite feedback on to student work! When students submit their work on Schoology, our Districtwide learning management system, I am able to open the document and handwrite messages and feedback to students despite us not being in an actual classroom. This "real-life" connection helps bring part of the personal connection back into our remote learning class.”

  • Reading Just Mercy: Addressing Social Justice in the Classroom

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for your generosity and desire to share this amazing novel with my students. Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption is a powerful text on the topic of social justice that will most certainly have a great impact on them. I know it did on me. Again, thank you.”

  • Color Us Happy!

    Funded Apr 24, 2018

Thank you for your generosity! With this generous donation, I am once again able to print both black & white and color copies for my students and my classroom. A few examples of how the ink is used includes:

    * A colorful bulletin board for the classroom using Amplify! artwork detailing the importance youth turnout in our elections.

    * Fliers for our LBGTQ club rush and National Coming Out Day

    * Assignments that could not be printed in color at home

    * Handouts that are color-coded to help ensure student comprehension

    * Colorful mini book posters used to encourage awareness of various texts

    * Worksheets for classroom use

    * Printing for students who do not have availability to printers otherwise
