I found that students are more engaged when they are having fun while learning. The Next Generation Personal Finance program allows me to teach Personal Finance to high school students while engaging them with games and teaching them fundamental financial skills. These games include ARCADE, Spent, and Credit Clash. Spent is especially fun because the students are given a budget and they have to make it through the month balancing that budget while spending their money on the necessities, the basics, and emergencies. Because my students are not allowed to use their cellular devices, these Galaxy tablets will be a start to incorporating technology into the class. I love competition and so do my students. The tablets will also be used when teaching vocabulary. There is a game that can be used with androids, google, and iPads called "Heads up, Seven Up." The students can play this game when reviewing vocabulary. When one student holds the tablet above his/her head, the other students have to use words to describe the term while that student guesses what it is. The teams alternate and the team with the highest score wins. Technology in the classroom is always fun when used efficiently and effectively.
