  • Windows, Mirrors, and Sliding Glass Doors- Diversity

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

My class has enjoyed listening to many of the books provided with this project. The focus and goal has been to learn about diversity, self acceptance, and acceptance of others' differences.

It has been great to have meaningful conversations with my first-graders about each of the stories we have read so far. The class has made connections to themselves and with others through our books about diversity. While reading these stories the students often retell a time when they have experienced someone either being mean or being helpful, discussing how they felt and how we can use these opportunities to learn about others and help others.

They really enjoyed We're All Wonders and the Teach Your Dragon books, the most so far!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Collaboration and Team Work Through STEM

    Funded Oct 23, 2018

Through your generous donations, my students are learning valuable teamwork skills! Besides teamwork, they have learned the importance of setting a plan first and that often it takes several tries to succeed. Students who often have trouble working with others are improving their social skills with these activities. As we progress through the year, certain activities are fitting perfectly with our curriculum and are used as an extra center and hands on support. Without your generosity my students would not have these more unique opportunities to work together.”

  • Healthy Snacks Keep Me Going - Round Two!

    Funded Sep 2, 2018

Your generosity has put smiles on 15 little faces this month! We received our classroom snacks, thanks to you. The students are enjoying the variety of options available each day, as the snacks are set up like a buffet would be. Students are not going the whole day without a snack and are able to finish off the afternoon with a settled belly and focused brain. Not only have the students shown great appreciation, they were excited to work together as we opened the packages and organized our snack area. They are also practicing patience and responsibility as they get their own snack each day, respecting each others time and space at the counter. Thank you again for the support!”

  • Time For Kids To Learn Together!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Your donations and the Time for Kids materials have allowed my students to learn more about the world around us. Most recently, we learned about how crayons are made and wrote the step by step process. The mixture of the hands on magazine and materials available via the Time for Kids webpage allowed my students to learn in various ways. Not only have they worked on important reading skills, they've also been exposed to our science and social studies skills to act as a mini unit. We look forward to continuing to use our magazines to make connections to the world around us and plan exciting activities from the reading!”

  • Personal Space for Everyone!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Your generous donations have allowed my students to enjoy whole group lessons with their own personal space. My students were overjoyed when the rug arrived and was set up in the classroom. We spent the remainder of the school year using our personal spaces to aide in group discussions, partner talks, and simply as a comfortable place to work in the room. The students were relieved that they no longer had to fuss over who sat where and if anyone was too close. Since the rug has 20 spaces, it made math a little more fun as we created ten frames out of the spots as well! I have had the opportunity to teach in my room over the summer and my summer students love this space as well. They know where they need to go when we enter the room and know their boundaries. Thank you again for your donations and support, I look forward to many more years of use!”

  • Technology in Our Hands

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

Your generous donations to our "Technology in Our Hands" project is greatly appreciated. The students enjoy using the tablets during centers and free time. We are able to do several things and still learning!

One of the greatest things about the tablets in the classroom, is that students are working more closely together and able to work on communication and social skills regardless of what they are doing. They are taking turns within a partnership or group, with little conflict. They are taking turns within a certain game or activity. Yes!

The students are making several home school connections with comments like "Oh, I can do this on my tablet at home now too!" as well as suggesting other apps to use. We will also be working with our fifth grade reading buddies to broaden our tablet knowledge!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Filling Bellies and Staying Focused!

    Funded Dec 5, 2017

Your donations and generosity have been felt by myself and my students. Each day, there is not need to worry if anyone has a snack or has forgotten snack. The students have freedom to choose their snack from the variety we've gotten.

Students who come in to class without breakfast, have the opportunity to grab something to keep them focused and ready to learn until lunch time.

Your generosity has not only given my students more comfort, but has taught them the importance of helping others and also donating when they can.”

  • Healthy Snacks Keep Me Going

    Funded Jul 18, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation for our classroom snacks. My students look forward to a daily snack, one that they did not have to pack. Some students will still bring their own snacks, but most have been enjoying what you helped to provide.

Parents and students were thrilled to learn that we had received such a generous donation that provided daily snack. If our snack box is running low, they are quick to remind me to refill it. Each student has chosen their favorite from the variety.

Once again, this was an amazing gift to our class!”

  • Reading Readiness for Kinders

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

The students are thoroughly enjoying their new materials. Several mornings each week we are using the magnetics phonics set as part of our morning work routine. There is only board in each box, so they HAVE to work as a team. This is improving on their team work skills and communication, as well as the targeted phonics skill. We use the phonics listening station daily, where they must follow directions to complete the task cards. So far, their favorite is the writing box. They are making some silly stories and sentences with partners, improving their sentence structure and team work!

When the materials first arrived they could not wait for them to be opened and ready to use. We are slowing introducing each activity before moving on to a new one to use. They are even becoming experts at what we have introduced and are helping each other with directions. We will continue to work with these materials through the year's end and into next year, as I am looping with this class to 1st grade!”

Welcome and thank you for visiting! I currently teach First Graders!! Each year brings new challenges and experiences, but what remains the same is their will to learn and succeed. Our school is a Title 1 school, meaning many of our families are of low income status, parents work long hours, and many students receive their primary care from other family members. The students I teach each year come from diverse backgrounds. For some students, English is not their primary language. My students have various academic levels when they enter first grade, needing as many options and as much support as possible. The students arrive each day happy to have a place to be welcomed, feel safe and loved, and free themselves. These students will benefit from any donations made, as all donations will go toward materials that will enhance their learning experience while creating welcoming and fun learning environment!
