  • Filling the Literacy Gaps Post Hurricane Ian

    Funded Oct 15, 2023

Thank you for supporting our schools and students while many still rebuild after Hurricane Ian! Building a stronger Literacy foundation in my classroom is something I am excited to share with my students and watch then grow and learn this school year.

I cannot wait to show them our new materials”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

This classroom project was brought to life by Education Foundation of Sarasota County.
  • Personal Storage

    Funded Oct 19, 2022

Our classroom is so much more organized and students have a place specifically for their things! In my classroom we use tables instead of desks so having a place close by their seats to keep notebooks and books helps to minimize some of the chaos that comes with not using desks to store these things. The students know where to get their things when needed and we are losing less items around the room now! Thank you for helping us to get organized and promote organization skills as well as personal responsibility.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Classroom Snacks, Relief From Ian

    Funded Oct 13, 2022

After Hurricane Ian our students missed several weeks of school and when it was time to return many families were (and still are) working to get their homes repaired or finding new places to stay or move to. Having snack available to students in my classroom each day took one thing off the plates of parents. All students had snack available if they needed or wanted it and did not have to worry about if their parents had sent snack.

They enjoyed the variety of items available to them.

Thank you for helping families in need!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Let's Play to Start the Day

    Funded Oct 8, 2022

My students have been working with morning tubs since they arrived. Each morning after students unpack they can choose which tub they want to use until our morning announcements begin.

This has helped to increase the number of students arriving to school on time and being responsible for unpacking in the morning before they can use the tubs. The students are able to socialize and release some of their energy before our day officially begins, helping to minimize some classroom disruptions and distractions due to behaviors.”

  • Refreshed Treasure Box

    Funded Nov 1, 2022

My students will be so excited for the new items in the treasure box! I love that we will have things to use for random prizes and surprises as well. Thank you fir supporting my amazing group of first grade students, especially during this time! We appreciate all that is provided and shared with us!”

  • Find a Seat

    Funded Feb 10, 2022

Thank you again for supporting my classroom. These lap desks helped my students feel more comfortable in our classroom environment.

Students would enter in the morning, take a lab desk, and find a place to read while waiting for our day to official begin. Many worked together to read books while sitting with these desks. Students also enjoyed using these throughout the day to complete work instead of sitting in their normal desks and chairs.

Allowing students to find a comfortable way to work is so important and I cannot wait to see my newest group of students benefit from these as we enter into a new school year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Independent Reading

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Our class and families are so grateful for your support and help with this project. Students have been actively taking home books weekly to read with their families.

Students have had the opportunity to choose new books each week to share with their families, complete reading logs, and work on comprehension discussions about what they've read.

The students are also learning a sense of responsibility, as they have to keep track of their books with a book buddy bag and return them each Monday.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Wobble to Focus

    Funded Sep 12, 2020

Thank you for your support in my classroom. My students who need the extra body movement have this opportunity to use wobble chairs instead of the regular classroom chairs. I have the same students who consistently use these stools to help them focus and learn!

When we recently rearranged the classroom seating, one of these students said "But I think I am going to still need this stool tomorrow!" My students know they have this as an option and they know what works best for them. We truly appreciate your donation and support and making this the best learning environment we can have!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Daily Snacks = Focused Minds

    Funded Sep 5, 2020

My students and families were very thankful for the opportunity you helped to provide them by providing snacks for the classroom. Families had a time period where they did not need to worry about sending in snacks for their own child!! The variety of snacks we were able to have available was a plus!

Our lunch is very early in the day, meaning the students have several hours of learning and working hard. The boost of energy later in the day helps them to work through the remaining part of the day, stay focused, and ready to do their best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

  • Author Studies to Create Fabulous Authors

    Funded May 30, 2019

My students are enjoying the author studies we have been working on so far this year. We enjoyed stories by Robert Munsch and Mo Willems so far. I believe their favorite story to date was Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

We have been able to have some great classroom discussions about the stories, while focusing on story elements. We've taken a deeper look at why the authors have chosen to write their stories and how the stories have made the students feel.

We are beginning to use the writing guides to learn about becoming authors and will be publishing a class book in the near future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szady

Welcome and thank you for visiting! I currently teach First Graders!! Each year brings new challenges and experiences, but what remains the same is their will to learn and succeed. Our school is a Title 1 school, meaning many of our families are of low income status, parents work long hours, and many students receive their primary care from other family members. The students I teach each year come from diverse backgrounds. For some students, English is not their primary language. My students have various academic levels when they enter first grade, needing as many options and as much support as possible. The students arrive each day happy to have a place to be welcomed, feel safe and loved, and free themselves. These students will benefit from any donations made, as all donations will go toward materials that will enhance their learning experience while creating welcoming and fun learning environment!
