  • Special Education Classroom Rug

    Funded Jul 6, 2024

Thank you so much for the purchase of our classroom rug! As you know, materials such as these are big ticket items that are difficult for teachers to buy. Please know that teachers recognize how valuable Donors Choose is for our classrooms and to connect us to community members that want to help!

My students love having a rug in the classroom! We can sit on it during morning meeting. We all sit criss cross apple sauce! We also love to use it for indoor recess as well as using it for center times. The first day of school when the students arrived they all said "OMG a new rug!!" Thank you again for your generous contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Making Center Materials

    Funded Jan 31, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The laminating sheets allow me to create center based learning for both ELA and Math Centers. It is great to make sturdy materials that I can use year after year! This also allows me to cut down on paper, since my students typically take multiple months to learn a new concept. The erasers and the plastic sheets allow my students to practice skills multiple times in order to master new concepts.

Thank you so much for your continued support of my classroom and their learning experiences!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Number Talks

    Funded Dec 12, 2017

Thank you so much for your donations to our fund our project Number Talks. We are using various strategies during Number Talks that enhance and improve our understanding of Number Sense. We enjoy using Rekenreks and are happy that the Teacher now has a larger one to use to model for the class. The stand that was funded will help us organize our materials for our Number Talks in a designated area of the classroom. This way we can keep our Splat Game and Dot Game on the stand. Our Rekenreks will be placed on the bottom for easy use.

Since October, we have seen an improvement in the students Math Scores while utilizing Number Talks.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Math Center Materials

    Funded Sep 21, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations to fun my Math Center Materials. As a Special Education Teacher I have students of all different levels. Therefore, I must create materials for various goals and cognitive level. Not having to worry about laminating sheets to laminate games, worksheets and practice activities is priceless. Using the laminated materials daily we do tend to go through dry erase markers rather quickly. The personal abacus are wonderful for students who are practicing Math concepts using manipulative's.

My district went through a $16 million dollar deficit this past year. 80 Teachers did not return to teach. Supplies for classrooms are non existent at this time. The generosity of the community is valuable to ensuring all children are getting a proper education. Thank you again for your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Let's Create some Center Games!

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. As you know, the budgets to our inner city schools have been decreased significantly. Therefore, a lot of the expense for making center items falls on the teachers. I teach in a specialized classroom, therefore, hands on center activities are important for the students to gain a deeper understanding of concepts. Your generous donations have assisted me with obtaining laminating sheets so that I can create a variety of Math and ELA games for my students.

Thank you again for your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Practicing Our Addition and Subtraction Skills in Centers

    Funded Mar 16, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. Your donation assists me with offering a variety of ways to continue to teach my students mathematical concepts. They absolutely love the hands on activities such as the Ten Frame Dice, Magnetic Ten Frames and the Ten Frames they can all use with the multiple-colored chips. This allows me to differentiate instruction during center times. The students are involved with their learning when they enjoy the materials.

Thank you again for your continuous support of my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Time to Build With Different Materials

    Funded Mar 7, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations for building materials and a cart to organize the materials. My students love to build using Lego's, Blocks and anything else we can find! Donating to my class allows my students to explore play using a variety of materials that otherwise they would not have access too. Opportunities to explore different dramatic play by building castles, space ships, boats, etc are invaluable for my students who are learning to not only play but communicate with each other during their play.

Thank you again for your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Help us Organize our Books

    Funded Dec 21, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations to assist my classroom in creating a more organized Library. The students enjoy reading. They are being exposed to Fiction, Non Fiction and Poetry. Having the ability to not only organize by Author but genre has been helpful. The students take great care and responsibility in keeping our books neat and organized. Since we do not receive a budget in order to obtain new books they are either purchased by myself or parents donate books to the classroom. The ability to keep our collection together is a great perk for my classroom!

Thank you again for thinking of all the students and their needs. My district struggles to have a budget for supplies. Your generous donations allow us to have the same materials that other, more wealthier districts have in their classrooms.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • We Love Bugs!

    Funded Jul 8, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support with our Science materials for our classroom. Our class has children that have a variety of disabilities. The materials that we were able to obtain allow the children to read about Insects, complete hands on activities, arts and crafts, use language arts to describe the bugs. I could go on and on! The children absolutely love to learn about different animals and insects.

We look forward to writing our factual reports using our Insect books on the Butterfly and Ladybug! The children will use graphic organizers provided in our Instant Learning Center to organize the facts about the insects in a visual way before they write out their reports.

Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Creative Play Leads to Creative Minds!

    Funded Mar 17, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. It is wonderful to know that their are people out their willing to help teachers obtain the appropriate materials for students. My class is a specialized class that has students of various levels and abilities. Therefore, the material needs of my class can change year to year.

However, the need to learn to play is universal to all. The ability to create using their imagination as well as play with other students is important to learning. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

My school is set in an urban district. We have a high percentage of students that live below the poverty line and speak another language. There are a large percentage of students that have suffered some kind of trauma within their family. My students are bused from all over the city to my specialized classroom. I serve children with a variety of academic, sensory, communication and behavioral needs. The classroom consists of individualized programming for up to 12 students. We spend a lot of time working on social skills, making good decisions and regulating behaviors when the student is frustrated.
