  • 3D Printing for Fun

    Funded Mar 12, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project!

3-D Printing is an emerging technology that is becoming more and more important in the STEM field, so it is great that our students are able to gain experiences with 3-D printers while still in high school. Students are able to use the 3-D printers at school to create objects for class projects and just for fun.

This project funded rolls of filament for our school 3-D printers. Filament is a consumable material that the printers use to create objects, and we needed to replenish our supply. The students in our 3-D Printing Club were really excited to see the new colors of filament that we received from your generous donations.”

    Mrs. McCauley

  • TPT Resources for Classroom Engagement

    Funded Jun 6, 2022

When students are engaged in the math classroom, they are learning. I constantly remind my students that learning mathematics is not a spectator sport.

This Donors Choose project funded a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. I used the gift card to purchase a year's worth of supplemental resources for my AP Calculus class. The activities in this bundle are just what my students need to practice new skills, talk about calculus with their classmates, and really engage in learning calculus. We will use these activities all year long as we move from AP Calculus AB to AP Calculus BC.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCauley

  • Calibrating Cool Math

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you for donating to this project. Thanks to your generosity, my students are now equipped with calipers to make precise measurements in Geometry and AP Calculus.

Having these calipers will allow students to learn math through investigations. These experiences have a great impact on student learning. My students will also have FUN in class as the learn math. Students in AP Calculus will be able to investigate volumes. Students in Geometry will be able to investigate circles and "discover" the meaning of pi.”

  • 3-D Printing Makes Learning Fun

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

We are off to an exciting start to the new school year. Soon, our school will be offering a club period again to our students for the first time in almost two years, and this year, for the first time, I will be sponsoring the Tiger 3-D Printing Club. This would not be possible without the 3-D Printers I have had funded through DonorsChoose projects.

I hope that I can be an inspiration to my students to try new things and imagine themselves in careers where they can use their talents, brains, and creativity. Thank you for your generous support in providing new, enriching, and innovative experiences for my students!”

    Mrs. McCauley

  • Basics for Back to School

    Funded Aug 11, 2021

The new school year is off to a great start with your generous donations to our "Basics for Back to School" campaign through Donors Choose! The cleaning and wellness supplies we received help us work and learn together in a safe and healthy environment.

This project also provided the supplies needed to refurbish some old chalkboards in my classroom. The students in my Pre - Calculus and AP Calculus classes LOVE to work at the new whiteboards. They are learning to be great problem solvers by working together and having impactful learning conversations about math.

I am so appreciative of the kindness you have shown to my students.”

  • Fractions Are Our Friends

    Funded Mar 4, 2021

Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom. With your help, we received a blessing of ten scientific calculators for our classroom..

These new calculators are used daily by the students in my Algebra 2 classes at Elkins High School. Scientific calculators are a powerful tool in the math classroom. They provide students a way to make precise calculations, analyze data, and explore mathematically. With the aid of a scientific calculator, students who struggle with tedious arithmetic are able to access higher level problems and are not left behind.

Your kind gift is so appreciated by my students and will benefit students at EHS for years to come.”

    Mrs. McCauley

  • Our Tigers Think, Design, and Create

    Funded Oct 17, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations to purchase a Cricut cutting machine and related supplies for our school. This resource is a great addition to our future Maker Space Club, and it will be available for teachers to use in their classrooms.

While school looks a lot different during this year with remote and blended learning, we are all looking forward to an end to this difficult time. I have high hopes that when it is safer to gather in larger groups, we will again offer clubs during the school day and after school. I know the Cricut will be a popular item.”

    With gratitude,

  • Innovation Lab for Future Success

    Funded Aug 24, 2020

Most of the materials funded through our Innovation Lab Donors Choose grant arrived before the first day of school this year. I can't explain how excited the students were when they were greeted with two new 3d printers, drones, coding kits, and so many other great tech tools.

The micro:bits kits were put into use in our computer science class right from the start of school, and I have heard many times how much fun coding has become now that they are using coding as a tool to make something happen with the micro:bits kits. The students can't wait to get their hands on the coding drones next!

Our students need hands-on experiences with technology, and this Innovation Lab project provides just that. The learning experiences created by the addition of these resources will last a lifetime as many students see that a career in technology is possible.”

  • Success in STEM

    Funded Dec 14, 2019

Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom. With your help, we were able to purchase two additional TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculators with rechargeable batteries that work with our classroom charging station.

These new calculators are used daily by the students in my Algebra 2 and AP Calculus classes at Elkins High School. Graphing calculators are a powerful tool in the math classroom. They provide students a way to make precise calculations, analyze data, and explore complex functions.

Your kind gift is so appreciated by my students and will benefit students at EHS for years to come.”

  • Technology for Mastery Learning in Mathematics

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

The addition of a second Microsoft Surface Tablet has improved student learning in our classroom. Online resources that allow students to practice mathematics are engaging and encourage students to keep working on a problem until they get the correct answer and master a skill. I frequently have 30 students per class, but our old laptop computers don't always work. Having additional computers allows me to create a technology rich one - to - one classroom.

My students are proud that we have a well-equipped classroom with exciting, new technology thanks to Donors Choose and donors like you. I am so thankful that I am able to give them every advantage available to further their understanding of math and help them prepare for future successes.”

I teach mathematics in a low SES public high school in a rural town located in eastern mountains of West Virginia. The students in my Pre - Calculus and AP Calculus classes are excited about math and science and plan to attend college to pursue in careers in STEM fields. We spend time in class investigating mathematical concepts to lay the foundation necessary so they are on par with their peers when they leave our small town.
