Financial Literacy through our Student Store
Funded Jan 25, 2018I can not express how grateful I am for your help in obtaining these amazing tools for our classroom. The Hokki Stools help students to focus on learning and are used as an incentive at our student store where students can spend their hard earned money to have a Hokki Stool at their desk for a day. The same is true of the standing desks. I have seen one student in particular who struggles with sitting use the standing desks to help focus on a variety of activities and it is amazing to see test scores go up because this student can stand up.
Every Friday afternoon we do a Student Store in our classroom where students can spend money they have earned throughout the week through good behavior and working hard. The students love the toys and candy and look forward each week to this fun time.
Thank you again, so much for help to make school a fun and rewarding experience for our class!”

Funded Oct 9, 2017The Sweet Rewards purchased by this project are used as motivation for our students to work hard and have positive behavior. Our school has a house system, much like in the Harry Potter series, and the students have parties where these sweet treats will be used.
Of course my students were excited to see what they can earn through supporting their house, and it has been a great motivational tool to help them work hard.
We are all so grateful for the support offered through the Donor's Choose community and especially to Sonic for funding this project.”

Wiggle and Move Our Way to Financial Literacy
Funded Oct 17, 2017We are loving the Bouncy Bands, Hokki Stools, books, and Wikki Stix in our classroom. In first grade, focus is very difficult, and by allowing the students to have movement with the Bouncy Bands and Hokki Stools, they can move and learn at the same time. I love hearing my kids bouncing their feet during a test. The books are great for small group reading and are stories that my young students can relate to and learn from.
When our materials arrived in the classroom, it was like an early Christmas present. The students helped to open the boxes and even put the books on the shelf and the Bouncy Bands on their chairs. It was such an exciting day!
I currently have another project posted to increase Financial Literacy in our class, and although it lost the match, I am continually hopeful that it will fund. As many of my students come from low socioeconomic homes, Financial Literacy is a skill that will have life changing effects.
Thank you so much for supporting my students through funding this project. Donors Choose has been such a blessing to me as a first year teacher and more importantly to my students.”

Funded Oct 3, 2017We are so grateful for the new carpet in our classroom! My students need boundaries and the marked, colorful squares give each student a defined space to learn. (They have even called the lines on the carpet hot lava to kindly remind each other to stay in their spots). Today students sat in their squares and worked on a reading program on the classroom iPads. It was so fun to watch them interact with technology out of their desks.
When the carpet first came, my students saw it in the hall and were so excited! We had help carrying it to our room. The students cleaned the area where the carpet would go and then some students provided a drum roll while others unrolled it. Students were quick to claim their squares and wanted to be on the carpet all day long.
I am currently working to add alternative seating to our classroom through Hokki stools and standing desks to help students that need to wiggle that ability while still being able to learn. We are going to begin a section on Financial Literacy which includes some age appropriate stories followed by setting up a classroom store where students can earn class currency through completing work and then spend it on special items in our store.
Thank you again so much for your very generous donation!”
