World Drumming for Music in Our Lives
Funded Aug 14, 2024You amaze me! Thank you for your generosity! You successfully funded the project in under 24 hours which means the beautiful new instruments will be on hand for the first full week of school! I’m excited to introduce world drumming to general music high school students. This will not only get them making music, but will also provide a safe space to express themselves. Studies show that improvisational drum circles also reduce cortisol levels and lessen physical ailments associated with stress. Together, we are taking care of mental health in the South Glens Falls High School music wing.”

Rah, rah…sis-BOOM(whacker)-bah!
Funded Aug 29, 2021It is with so much appreciation and gratitude that my students and I write to thank you for your generous donation to our Boomwhacker project.
The Boomwhackers were a highlight of our first three months in school (and I'm sure will continue to be as the year continues). Four of my choir classes used these materials on a weekly basis to develop their rhythm reading skills. Because we played Boomwhacker ensemble pieces in four to eight parts, we were able to play "catch-up" on the many ensemble experiences lost over a year of remote and hybrid music instruction. The best part was that after losing so much time to vocal instruction, my students needed several weeks to feel comfortable using their voices in the ensemble setting. They were feeling vulnerable, insecure, and generally out of practice. The boomwhackers helped build confidence and remind them of the joy in making music with a large group of peers.
The South Glens Falls High School Music Theory students also utilized the Boomwhackers on a regular basis for notation, rhythm, aural dictation, and chord-building activities. In a class where students come from varied musical backgrounds and performing experiences, it was great to have a tool to put musical concepts into practice.
Slowly, I am seeing the skillset of our students returning back to where it was in March 2020. The boomwhackers were the perfect tool to help rebuild the confidence to push beyond one's comfort zone! As I write this thank-you letter, the omicron variant is surging. We will continue to use the boomwhackers in an effort to diversify our 80 minute blocks.
Again, thank you for your unending support. It is truly appreciated!”

Theatre Arts Gives You "Smarts!"
Funded Aug 30, 2019Thanks to your generous donation, we have gotten the first 15 weeks of this new course off on the right foot!
Our supplies arrived during the second week of school and we were able to enhance our "Storytelling" unit with some new improvisation games that the students selected from the Improv 101 and 102 books. We also used the Storymatic game as a stepping stool to the students' first hand at scene writing. These scenes were written, directed, and performed by small groups.
Our second unit, "Greek Theatre" unit included the use of our new classroom library for research. We also used our crafty supplies to make authentic Greek masks. The students wore these and used the scarves and beanbags as props in their Greek Tragedy Festival.
Our third unit on monologues and lighting also included extensive use of our new library. Students studied a monologue for performance from the monologues for teens textbook. They also wrote their own monologues in timed intervals which were then assigned for performance by classmates.
We followed this up by consulting our new copies of THEATRE FOR NON-TECHNICAL PEOPLE to introduce light design concepts. Students are currently being trained on the school auditorium's light booth and are using this new skill to design lighting for the recently studied monologues.
None of this would have been possible without your support. In addition to providing a solid foundation for students who are new to the theatre, we are also supporting those who wish to pursue this in college and beyond. Thank you for investing in both the arts and the bright futures of these thoughtful, curious, and insightful young people.”

Mrs. Stambach-Fuller
