Set Up for Success with Basic School Supplies
Funded Nov 16, 2024Thank you so much for funding these basic school supplies!! Your support and collaboration means so much to me, my students, and our school community at large. Our students were so excited to have brand new notebooks and folders! We were in desperate need of fresh supplies after only a couple months in school. All our new supplies are color coded for our subject areas, making it easier for all of our students to know what materials to take out. We used our new labels to put everyone's name and class on all their new supplies. We also decorated our new notebooks and folders with motivational quotes. I notice my students reading and acting on these quotes every day!
Every morning, students are motivated to gather their new supplies from their lockers as we get ready for the day's lessons. Sometimes it's the little things that help us tackle our day on a positive note!”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Technology is not only fun but also a necessity in today's world. Technology is not only about playing games but learning about the world in a new and exciting way. In school, we use the iPads to research, create documents, and of course, play! But this playing is also learning. I have used the iPads to create a Technology center, where small groups of students can work on research for our science experiments, play games to strengthen math skills and watch interactive presentations about how to divide or what happens when a volcano erupts!
The iPads are a great motivator and engagement tool! The kids love being able to watch videos about the rock cycle, how an earthquake occurs or how food is digested. The iPads allow for the curriculum to come alive in a way a textbook can't. I also have small groups of students work on math lessons with interactive math problems and math facts practice. I have seen tremendous growth in basic math skills with the use of the iPads. We are using a specific math program that can be accessed anywhere. Several students can work on the iPads in math class to reinforce the day's lesson and then play games at home to practice the skill even more.
My English Language Learners are particularly engaged with this new technology. When they are having difficulty in class with specific vocabulary, they can access a specific app that can translate the words with interactive pictures, much more exciting than a dictionary! My special education students also really benefit from the access to this technology. After I have taught a specific math lesson, they can watch the lesson again with step-by-step instructions and guided practice. This technology has also been helpful with my gifted students. These students can access higher level thinking activities to challenge them when finished with the regular classwork.
Thank you for your generosity! The impact you have made on our classroom has been monumental!”

Ms. Rebecca
Where's the Technology?
Funded Jul 21, 2015Thank you for your generous donations to my classroom. The impact has been tremendous! In today's technology-fueled world, having technology in the classroom is essential. Our classroom only has two outdated desktop computers to share among 30 students. With your donations, we have expanded our technology access. This allows me to have more students working on web-based activities; activities that can be individualized to meet each students' needs. As a math teacher, it is necessary to keep reviewing previously-taught skills. Using the iPads is an efficient way for students to practice older skills, as well as, skills they are deficient in. By having the iPads, it allows me more opportunities to create small groups. Small group instruction is more targeted to the students' needs, which leads to improved learning! And of course, the iPads are super motivating! Kids today are all about technology; having the opportunity to use it in school is exciting for them and it keeps the teacher happy because they are learning!”

Learning Social Skills through Games
Funded Dec 30, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donations! I have already noticed a difference in my students' social skills. The students have been able to use the multitude of games that you have donated about once a week. The students were extremely excited to see the big boxes brought into the classroom and even more excited to see the variety of games they could play!
The students especially like the problem solving games, like Clue and Chess. I've noticed their strategy has gotten better over the last few weeks. I have also noticed students playing games with other students they normally wouldn't play with. Most importantly, there has been less conflict during recess. During this time students are usually left to entertain themselves with little recess equipment. With the institution of game time, there has been less opportunity for students to gossip about each other or start arguments.
Overall, I have seen an improvement in my students' ability to interact with each other and follow directions. Thank you again for your support of education!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rebecca

Funded Oct 13, 2009Thank you so much for your help! I cannot thank you enough for your active support of science education. This was my first project on Donors Choose and your donations have spurred my belief that people want to support education.
The tools you have funded will help my students get a hands-on experience in science. Not only will these items help make learning about the body fun, but they will create a deeper understanding of how our body works! With your help, we may inspire the next research scientists and doctors.
The students have really enjoyed taking apart the human models. They have a better understanding of where major organs are located in the body. They really got excited about the heart, especially when we listened to our heart beat and counted our pulse! They can't wait to learn more!
Thank you again for funding my project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rebecca
