Meeting Area Magic
Funded Oct 16, 2015We can't thank you enough for your generous donations! We absolutely love our new seating area!! From the moment we opened the box and put the pieces together our students were chomping at the bit to come to our rug area.
Before we received these materials our students were sitting on the cold tile floor of our classroom. Now they have a warm place to sit. This is significant because the children are expected to sit and be able to focus in this area. It is important to have something that is warm and comfortable which we now have thanks to you!”

Never Ending Non Fiction
Funded Jul 13, 2015From the moment the custodian delivered the boxes to our classroom my students were chomping at the bit to see what was inside. I called them over the to meeting area and slowly opened the boxes. When they saw brand new non fiction books on their reading level you could hear kids saying, "Look a book about the lost island of Atlantis" and "wow books about tigers". Students were claiming books before they were out of the box!
The new common core standards dictate that students must be college and career ready. Students must be as proficient in non fiction as they are in fiction. Having non fiction texts that are on their reading level about topics my students want to read about will make learning different reading strategies so much easier for them.
Thank you again for your generous donations!”

Publishing Party
Funded May 5, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donations!! When my students saw the boxes in our classroom they could not wait to open them. When they saw that there were new colored pencils and TONS of drawing paper and ink for the printer they were thrilled.
The students in my class love to be in school. Unfortunately, many of them cannot afford to buy all the necessary school supplies. Have a brand new tools to use in our classroom brings the curriculum to life. We are currently in the middle of drafting realistic fiction stories and when I told them they would be able to type their final copies on the computer because we had MORE than enough ink they were ecstatic. I then told them that there would be new colored pencils to illustrate their books my students were simply overjoyed.
Having the opportunity to use the technology in the classroom is a skill that will be used for a lifetime. Thank you once again for your very generous donations!”

Bountiful Books
Funded Dec 12, 2014When my students saw the custodian carry the box of books into our classroom they shrieked with excitement. "Whats in the box Ms. S?" I told them brand new books. They made me open the box immediately!!! Each of them tried to grab the books as soon as the box was opened. I told them they had to wait because I needed to put our school stamp in them - they would be ours forever!!! They were stamped that day and my students dove right in! You could hear my students saying things like, "Look at that cool bear book!" or "I love the Magic Tree House Books!"
Your generous donations have opened dozens of new doors for my students to explore. New characters to discover and new parts of our amazing world to explore.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

Wonderful Words
Funded May 8, 2014Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My students are so lucky to have generous donors like you who want to help them reach for the stars! The school year began just a few weeks ago and the impact of your generous donation can already be seen!
The vocabulary centers are a huge hit and vital to their language development. It will enable them to use higher order words which leads to a richer vocabulary and deeper understanding of the content they are learning.
We are using the vocabulary games as a fun center time activity. This really motivates my students because they feel like they are "playing" and I know that they are learning key common core skills. The daily comprehension has also been integral because it spirals through all different genres that we may or may not be working on in our current unit of study. This will help to keep them fresh all year in all genres. However the highlight was the 1st issue of Time For Kids! My students really feel like they are reading a regular magazine and I know that they are reading high caliber writing about key issues around their world.
We can't thank you enough!”

Super Scientists!
Funded Feb 17, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations!! The impact it has had on my students was immediate! When they saw me unpacking the clay and new books they were beyond excited! Then I showed them the Time for Kids and they were thrilled!
They were so excited to begin using all of these new resources. The Time for Kids was a perfect resource to use to help them read non-fiction text. They are such a rich resource because they help keep the students informed of current events, but at the same time present the information in an exciting way. The clay has been an integral part of our science unit on Water. The students were so excited to use it to create boats and explore the concept of buoyancy. They don't know it yet, but they will use more of the clay in our next science unit to build landforms. As part of the landform unit they will also use the volcano kits which I'm sure will be a big hit.
This project really boosted my students learning because it allowed them to explore the science concepts we were learning. I could hear children telling each other how to fix their boats to make them float, and walk over and offer help to do so. This is not something you typically see with students in my class, but for some they felt like experts and therefore this was a way to empower them.
Thank you again for you generous donations!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney and 8 other donors.Non-Fiction Knowledge
Funded Dec 31, 2013Thank you so much for the awesome books! When the boxes arrived, my students were so curious as to what was inside. I made it a very big deal and slowly revealed the mystery items. Screams were heard when they saw the contents. When they got a closer look, you could hear things like, "Cool I want to read the book about snakes first!" and "Look there's a book all about Abraham Lincoln, I've always wanted to learn more about him". This enthusiasm about non-fiction books could not have happened without your generosity.
As soon as all the books were labeled, the children were off to the races, not only reading the books in the bins but writing about them as well. They are learning how to write essays and having books about high interest topics make the essay writing SO much easier. They love to look back into the book and find evidence to support the different ideas they are saying. These new books have also encouraged them to read more. With the lengthy state tests approaching it will be important for my students to have enough stamina not to get tired by the end of the test. Allowing them to immerse themselves in high interests texts builds there reading stamina and levels and will help them greatly without even realizing it!
Thank you again!”

Marvelous Math
Funded Oct 30, 2013Thank you so very much for your donations that purchased these materials for my students. From the moment they came back from lunch and saw the boxes with the materials in it they were so excited that they begged me to take them out and show them what I had received! Within minutes of explaining the new math materials to my students they wanted to know when they could use them. The very next day, during math I took out the new materials and the look on their faces because they were the first ones was PRICELESS!
They love using these materials for math. After the mini lesson and guided practice these math centers really help them to develop a deeper understanding of the material being taught. We are currently deep into our multiplication unit and the word problems have been troublesome. These activity cards are helping to take my students through each step of the problem solving process and allowing them to access the material in an easy to understand way. Furthermore, it has given them another activity to do when they complete an assignment early that they deem fun. This allows me extra time to work one on one with students who are struggling, knowing fully well that my other students are still thinking deeply about the material we are learning.
Thank you again for your generosity.”

Listen Up!
Funded Feb 10, 2012Thank you so much for our brand new listening center! Our scholars are already busy using it and look forward to that part of our day.
Having the listening center now gives my scholars the opportunity to listen to the story. This is important because many of the scholars do not speak English at home and this gives them the opportunity to hear words read correctly and with expression.
Thank you again for helping our scholars have the best materials possible to enhance their learning. ”

Fabulous Second Graders Need Fun Phonics Centers!
Funded Jun 27, 2011The 2nd graders in my class can't thank you enough for the awesome phonics games that you helped purchase for our class. Now that we have been playing the games for the first few months of school we even ask for them when it's not time for phonics centers!
More importantly these phonics games will give my students the opportunity to practice the new phonics sounds in a fun, hands on way. This will help them master the new sounds necessary to read and comprehend second grade text.
Again thank you so much for your generosity!
