Bring Your Creativity To The “Surface”
Funded Mar 27, 2018I can't tell you how very excited my students were when your donations arrived. It was like the biggest party we've ever had. The looks on their faces were priceless and their enthusiasm for getting into the boxes was contagious.
We are having a blast using our brand new Microsoft Surface Pro and keyboard. My students were so excited just to walk into their classroom just to get their hands on their new materials. Their absolute favorite part of the day is using the Surface Pro for story time and creative art time. They absolutely love the animation of the characters coming alive. They have such a greater understanding of how stories go that all the want to do now is read! Creative art time has taken on new meaning. My students used to say "I can't draw"- now, they are jumping at the chance to draw anything and everything they possibly can!
Our next steps are to invite our upper grade buddies to help us code Dash Robots through different mazes. Hopefully our new Surface Pro will ignite a light within them to want to peruse anything they put their minds to in the future . I also hope this gives them a self-confidence and self-worth that they are so lacking.
Your donations have changed the way we learn and have made a hugs difference and impact on the minds of our future.”

Funded Mar 9, 2017I can't tell you how very excited my students were when your donations arrived. It was like the biggest birthday party for each student all at once. The looks on their faces were priceless and their enthusiasm for getting into the boxes was contagious.
We are having a blast using the Magnet Building Sets, Learning Pencils and puppets. My students get so excited just to walk into my classroom just to get their hands on their new materials. Their absolute favorite part of the day is putting the puppets on their hands and acting out their favorite books. They just love getting to use different voices, facial expressions and tones of voices to capture their favorite character.
Our next steps is to act out our favorite stories on stage for our very first drama performance. Hopefully this will ignite a light within them to want to peruse drama in the future . I also hope this gives them a self-confidence and self-worth that they are so lacking.

Get Those Motor Skills Moving!
Funded Feb 24, 2017My students are having a ball using our new resources. Many of my students struggle with motor skills, as well as having low muscle tone. This makes it tremendously difficult for them to zip, button, jump and hop. These tasks are so hard for them that they get extremely discouraged to even try. When my students tried for the first time, the swing and catch a game and the basketball hoop, the smiles on their faces were priceless . They didn't care whether they got it in or not. They were just happy to be trying something that was so much fun, all the while it is benefiting them in countless ways.
When our boxes first arrived, I placed them in the center of the room and let the kids guess what might be inside. They thought books, maybe crayons, some said construction paper. It was so sad for me to hear their predictions. It was all regular, ordinary things. They never thought they would be getting something fun and exciting. I cut off the tape and allowed the students to open up the box. They couldn't believe their eyes. They were so excited that they couldn't contain their joy sitting down. One by one they started popping up like popcorn and clapping. It was so much fun just seeing the reaction.
Our next steps in our classroom is to incorporate our new resources into everything we do throughout our classroom day. Currently, every time someone shares an answer, idea or participates in anyway, they get to take three shots in the basketball hoop. When our students show that they are making good choices or being a good friend they get to spend three minutes with the swing and catch games. These resources have been a fabulous motivator for our students to be engaged in every lesson we do throughout our day. They seem less timid to try because they know just for trying they will get to have something fun.
We can't thank you enough for all you have done for our classroom. You have made my students feel cared about and that is the greatest gift anyone can give.”

Mrs. Sofia
Technology and Art for Bilingual and Special Needs Students
Funded Sep 13, 2016Technology in the classroom turns our environment into a hands on, student driven place. The students get so excited and are immediately motivated to engage in any and all activities surrounding technology. When students are happy and motivated, learning grows to new heights. The most exciting parts for my students is watching their own work up on the big screen. They feel like little celebrities- which in turn makes them want to learn more and more. They get ecstatic over the virtual tours and now are exposed to a plethora of new experiences that they never would have gotten the chance to see otherwise. Your donations made learning come to life in our room and we cannot thank you enough for all your have done for us!”

Literacy for Special Needs Students
Funded Mar 9, 2016Having technology has had a major impact on learning in my classroom. My students have become so much more motivated and they look forward to hearing stories. For the majority of the school year, my students have been frustrated and easily become discouraged when it comes to reading. Now that they can actually hear their books come to life, it has opened up a whole new world for them.
The most exciting part for my students is being able to play their favorite books on CD. They put the headphones on and it's like they have been transported to a super fun place. They absolutely love the feeling they get when they can hear the words and then be able to read the words in the books of their favorite stories. They beg me all day long to go to our brand new listening center. Reading has now become the highlight of our day rather than the most frustrating part of their day.
We are so appreciative for your generous donation. You have made a true impact in the learning of special needs students and English Language Learners.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sofia
Empowering Students Through Art
Funded Mar 9, 2016When my students saw their new materials, it was like Christmas Morning! Their eyes grew so big and they could not wait to dig right in!
We are currently using the Wind Tunnel and Water Marbles for a science project. We each come up with our own hypothesis and each time we use the materials, we test out one hypothesis. We are using this as the springboard into learning the Scientific Method and what steps real scientists take in order to test our their theories.
The Wobble Chairs have been a blessing. I have students who have Attention Deficit Disorder and it is immensely difficult for them to remain seated during the day. The wobble chairs allow them to continue to move without the need to leave their seat. My students are actually wanting to stay in their seats just so they can sit on the Wobble Chair! This has made a huge difference in the flow of our day and has greatly reduced disruptions to their own learning.
We will be using all the art supplies, such as the Geostix and Wikki Sticks, to build out our stories. It is very hard for my students to concentrate and the use of art supplies to guide and act out the books they read will be tremendously beneficial and motivating for them!
Your generous donation is so very much appreciated. Just the look on my students faces when I put it in their hands has been priceless. Learning in our room will forever be changed in such a positive way. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!”

Mrs. Sofia
Materials to Foster Indepence and Success in an ICT Classrm
Funded Mar 9, 2016In order to teach new books, it is greatly important to front load any vocabulary we think that might be challenging to our students. We do this through flash cards, song, pictures and visuals. These new texts challenge the students to really think about what they know and what they are about to learn.
In my classroom, reading is presented in a Super Hero kind of way. We teach the students that they have their very own Reading Super Powers. Being able to hear their books come to life while using their Reading Super Powers has been instrumental in their progress and comprehension in Literacy. I have a group of special needs students and English Language Learners, who are particularly amazed when they listen to their books on CD. This donation has opened up a whole new world for them and how they view reading!
They Fairy Tale STEM packs have been so much fun! Their favorite fairy tales are brought to life while they get to engage in dramatic play to tell the story. This has has a tremendous impact in the way my students express themselves.
Your donation has brought learning to a whole new level in my classroom. My students actually said to me "I can't wait to come to school tomorrow and act out the next story". I couldn't be more appreciative for the spark of interest that was ignited within my special needs students!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sofia
Classroom Materials to Facilitate Morning Meeting
Funded Feb 10, 2016My students are using the "Shape It" Sand to learn their letters and their numbers. It is particularly helping with students whom have special needs, as well as English Language Learners. When I first opened up the sand, they could not believe you could shape it into things just like at the beach! No water required and it never dries out. My students learned 4 letters in 2 weeks- this is HUGE progress considering many of them have only learned 3-7 letters since the start of the school year.
Every morning we use the Circle TIme Center Pocket Chart to guide us through our morning meetings. The colors and pictures do wonders for my students and they are now getting the grasp of weather, calendar information, counting and rhyming.
We cant than you enough for your generosity. You have brought life into our classroom and sparked an interest with all of my students.
Thank you so very much,”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sofia
