My 2nd graders come to school everyday because they know it is a safe place where someone will protect and care about them. They come from broken families, or parents who work multiple jobs just to pay rent. Almost all of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch. It is hard for them to continue their learning at home because parents are working hard to support the family, or they simply don't have any materials to work with. Due to this fact, many of them are below grade level. Even with their hardships, they come with bright eyes, ready to learn, and get frustrated with themselves if they don't understand something. As teachers, we often have to provide our students with basic supplies for school or activities to help them stay engaged in class, and I want to do anything to help my students succeed.
