  • STEAM-ing Through Grade 4

    Funded Sep 12, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous monetary donation and the support that you've shown my students, classroom, and me. It has been a wonderful year watching my students build relationships with their peers and together foster a sense of curiosity and enjoyment of STEAM activities and games. Thanks to your donations we were able to provide my students with magnetic building blocks, gravity maze marble games, building blocks, and much more classroom supplies. We are just about to enter our energy unit in Mystery Science and I cannot wait to see my students make the connection from their marble run and their lessons on "height energy". Thank you again for helping to provide these opportunities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shinshiro

  • Health & Wellness for Our Girls!

    Funded Sep 29, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous monetary donation and the support that you've shown my students, classroom, and me. With the pads, wipes, deodorant wipes and, extra shorts and underwear provided with this project, we are able to prepare for any "accidents" that may occur for our 4th grade girls. Myself along with 5 other homeroom teachers were able to provide personal hygiene product carts and a supply located in the girl's bathroom so that girls can either ask for help or help themselves. Thank you for helping to normalize, support, and empower our girls!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shinshiro

  • Fourth Grade Coding with Dash

    Funded Sep 3, 2023

Thank you so much for helping to fund our amazing Dash robots! My students and I were ecstatic when we unboxed our 3 new friends (names to be determined). My fourth graders have been able to use their lessons on Code.org to go hand in hand with writing code in the WonderWorks Blockly app.

I cannot wait to expand on my students (now) basic knowledge of coding and integrate our Dash with other curriculum. Our Dash have become a great incentive and hands-on learning took in our classroom. I hope that their newly sparked interest in coding continues to grow and inspire other classrooms.”

  • Bee-Friendly & Earth-Friendly Fourth Graders!

    Funded Jul 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous monetary donations and the love and support you've shown my students and classroom!

Our students started the year with a fun incentive as they earned a personalized reusable water bottle for returning their "back to school" forms. They've been excited to use these water bottles ever since (especially on PE days).

We've also planted our bee-friendly pollinating blend of flowers and added them to our classroom garden outside. These will be fun to watch bloom and send home. The best part is that we have extra dirt and seeds to continue planting and gardening all year long!”

  • Books for Our Social Emotional Learning Journey

    Funded Mar 6, 2023

Thank you for you generous monetary donations and support. Thanks to you we were able to purchase some much need school supplies for a mid-year refresh! Our learning targets never looked better typed, printed, laminated, and hanging on our whiteboard. Students were the most excited for the classroom doorbell, pencil sharpeners, and earbuds that came just in time for standardized testing! We are also excited to put together our bookshelves and work on some end of the year SEL and growth mindset during this busy testing time of the year.”

  • The Traveling Novel Study

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you for you generous monetary donations and support. Thanks to you we were able to purchase a class set of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our traveling novel study. We were also able to purchase more graphic novels for our classroom library as well as leveled readers for our emerging readers and contact paper to protect these new books. Our students were most impressed by the amount of books we continued to pull out of our Amazon boxes but were probably the most excited to see the graphic novels freshly wrapped and added to our library!”

  • We Solemnly Swear We Are Up to No Good!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you for you generous monetary donations and support. Thanks to you we were able to purchase multiple sets of Harry Potter books and other themed Harry Potter supplies to run a fun Harry Potter book club! This was a great way to reward students and also build relationships with each other. I look forward to being able to continue this book club with new students each year and recreating these fun projects. I hope that these fun activities continue to spark magic and mischief (good mischief) with my 4th graders!”

  • Celebrating All School Year Long!

    Funded Nov 18, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous monetary donations. Our students were over the moon to see the new prizes that they could earn. The cute squish pens, highlighters and roller erasers were definitely the most popular.

Thanks to you we were able to provide our students with a mid school year supply refresh with additional pencils and bandages. We were also in need of the replacement hole punch, and replenishment of stamps, laminations sheets, and dry erase markers.

We are ready for the second half of the school year and ready to go out with lots of fun and hard work!”

Today, teaching means preparing our students for jobs that do not even exist yet. The traditional job markets are evolving and becoming very technology-driven and dependent. Industries outside of technology such as: finance, manufacturing, health care, information technology (IT), data analyst, artistry and design, and engineering now have job demands with computer coding skills. This shift has made coding a core skill for our students to be successful in their future. In class my students have been exposed to a very basic level of coding using a free educational website. With these Dash and Dot robots my students will be able to make a physical connection of coding and begin their journey of robotics. Robotics is then offered as an extracurricular next year as a 5th grader, in intermediate, as well as at the high school and collegiate level here in Hilo. Please help me prepare my students for a successful and meaningful future.
